Can slowing down planes help cut aviation’s carbon footprint? 🛫 📚 A new study from the University of Cambridge suggests it can. By reducing flight speeds and improving contrail coordination, the aviation industry could significantly cut its environmental impact over the next five years. One of the strategies included in the study is to reduce flight speeds by 15%, reducing fuel burn by 5-7%. ⏰ On the other hand, this might add 50 minutes to a transatlantic flight. The university’s analysis indicates that current policies leave the aviation sector far from achieving its climate commitments. The report outlines realistic and sustainable steps that, if implemented, could put the industry back on track towards meeting net-zero emissions by 2050. What are your thoughts on this plan? #Aviation #NetZero #ClimateAction #GreenTech #GreenNews #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #WasteManagement #Resourcify

Thanks Mirko Hornung at Bauhaus Luftfahrt, Technical University of Munich for your dedication to driving sustainability in aviation and for being a beacon of positivity despite of the challenges. Looking forward to welcoming you at the IMPACT Forum on Dec 2&3, 2024 in London. 📉 The decarbonization of aviation will not magically happen overnight. And while numerous decarbonisation charts show the various decarbonization levers - operational efficiency improvements, SAF, carbon capture, etc. - let me remind you: these are just charts - no more, no less. For implementation, we need the close cooperation of visionaries and sustainability enthusiasts from policy, industry, academia and finance. 📌 The IMPACT Forum, co-sponsored by WTW will help shape the conversation between the magic square of science, regulation, industry and finance, contribute to the development of an effective master plan and to catalyzing real-world action to address this critical issue. #sustainability #sustainablefinance #aviation #netzero #impactforum #aircraftfinance #aviationfinance #climate Hugo Kanters Jörg Schirrmacher Michael Rurik Halaby, FRAeS Jean Chedeville Bryson P.
