📢 Update from Impact Life Impact Life has recently purchased a property on Bear Christiana Road in Bear, Delaware, which will be part of our Recovery Residences Program. These houses are tentatively set to open towards the end of this year and early 2025. We have received numerous inquiries about this new development, and we want to keep our community informed with the following key points: 🌟Certified Program: Our Recovery Residence Program is certified by the First State Alliance of Recovery Residences. We also adhere to the NARR Good Neighbor standards, ensuring that we maintain responsible and considerate practices within the community. Community Resilience Partnership grants provide a great opportunity to invest in one of 72 resilience projects that may already be a part of your town's list of priorities. Learn more here: https://loom.ly/nHjLXK0 For instance, Stonington, Maine, which joined the Partnership in March 2023, has long needed to raise Oceanville Road, even prior to the January storms. The project planning was already underway with Community Action Grant funds, but now it faces additional adjustments to raise the road even higher. "We knew were going to raise that causeway because with the sea level rise that has been coming, we knew we were going to have to," said town manager Kathleen Billings. "But the issue now is, with the recent storms, we have to go back to the engineer. What we thought we had planned for is not going to be adequate anymore." I moonlight in real estate. Specifically, affordable housing for bluebirds. That’s right. When I’m not WilmerHale’s Pro Bono Counsel, I’m a Bluebird Landlord. This is a photo of my current tenants, Mama and Papa Blue. They moved in last April and have stayed ever since. They are empty nesters now. They had three babies last spring, but as of this week all the kids flew the coop (went off to college?). They haven’t decided yet if they want more Baby Blues. This year they might become snow birds and go south for the winter. But they heard the rent is more expensive in Florida. At the moment, they’re enjoying the empty nest and the daily bowl of free worms subsidized by their landlord (yours truly). I’d say the rent is free too, but it’s not. What they don’t pay in dollars, they pay in joy and beauty (and sometimes free concerts from Papa Blue, who is a singer). They are called “bluebirds of happiness.” They do indeed heal the heart of a Pro Bono Counsel whose day job is often spent confronting the world’s sorrows, trauma, and injustice. Some may wonder why I’m getting involved – my motivation is simple: the community is wanting to see this project progress. I am sharing this information because it serves as an important platform for sharing updates on important matters. We hope you will agree that this is an important matter of community interest for the local Trigg-Scarborough community. Proposals for a boardwalk have been raised since as early as 2005, and we are now seeking community input on a potential boardwalk that would allow the community to enjoy a safe and enjoyable user experience with careful consideration given to environmental impacts and protection. There has been much debate on how the community feel about Trigg-Scarborough Coastal Boardwalk, including levels of support and opposition and now is the time to have your say.
