His answer: “Imagine your loved one needing to take medication for a life-threatening condition, yet you are unsure if it is going to work because it wasn’t tested in enough people like them. That is often the case for those who are underrepresented in clinical trials. According to a Tuft’s study of the drugs and biologics approved by FDA between 2007 and 2021, Asians were underrepresented in the pivotal trials of those medicines by 31.9%, Hispanics by 32.1%, and Blacks by 64%.
