Rethinking Employee Well-being in Healthcare: Beyond the Traditional Model As healthcare professionals, we know that well-being strategies designed for the 9-to-5 world don’t always fit the reality of our hospitals. Shift work, long hours, and the emotional demands of caring for patients create unique challenges for our workforce. Frontline healthcare workers, support staff, and administrators alike deserve our full attention when it comes to employee well-being. So how do we create well-being strategies that are truly inclusive for all healthcare employees—whether they’re working around the clock in patient care, supporting hospital operations, or managing critical tasks behind the scenes? Here are three important considerations: 1. How can we implement flexible scheduling options while maintaining the highest levels of patient care? 2. Are we providing mental health resources that are accessible 24/7, especially for those working irregular hours? 3. What well-being programs can we offer to support the physical and emotional demands of healthcare roles? The future of well-being in healthcare requires a holistic approach. From our nurses to our custodial teams, every employee deserves to feel supported. I’m curious—what innovative well-being initiatives have you seen that work for shift-based healthcare workforces? #HealthcareHR #EmployeeWellBeing #ShiftWork #PatientCare #HospitalLeadership #WellbeingAtWork

🌞 It was a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon. I had gone out with family to relax at the park, soaking in some much-needed quality time. Suddenly, my phone started ringing non-stop. The call was from an unknown number. I thought, "Who could this be disturbing my family bonding time?" I excused myself to take the call. It was one of our employees needing medical attention at the hospital. He wasn't being attended to and couldn't reach our Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). In desperation, he had to call me to intervene. While I was more than willing to help, this situation highlighted a critical need within our organization: seamless healthcare support. Here’s why this experience reinforced my belief in the importance of employee satisfaction: ✅ Responsive HMO: We need an HMO that is highly responsive and reliable, ensuring our employees receive swift medical attention irrespective of the time of day. This removes the need for them to call the HR team during emergencies, which can be incredibly stressful for both parties. ✅ Taking Admin Off HR’s Plates: By partnering with an efficient HMO, we can remove the administrative burden from our HR team, allowing them to focus on more strategic tasks and improving overall job satisfaction. ✅ Self-Service Access for Team Members: Empowering our employees with self-service access to healthcare and wellness resources ensures they can manage their benefits and get the help they need directly from the HMO. This independence is crucial for their satisfaction and efficiency. ✅ 24/7 Support: Implementing 24/7 support systems through our HMO means our team members can get the help they need at any time, without involving HR. This round-the-clock support significantly contributes to a healthier work-life balance and peace of mind for our employees. By adopting these measures, we can create a work environment that supports both professional and personal well-being. Let’s embrace the right healthcare solutions to foster a culture where everyone thrives, even on beautiful sunny Saturdays. 🌟 Have you had similar experiences with your HMO? I would love to hear your stories and how your organization handles healthcare support. In the meantime, click here (see link in comments) to learn more about Reliance Health and how they seamlessly handle situations such as this. #HRwithEM #EmployeeSatisfaction #HRTech #WorkLifeBalance #EmployeeWellness #HMO #SelfServiceHR #24x7Support #QualityTime

Effective Time Management For Healthcare Workers https://lnkd.in/e55gg49d I help healthcare workers lead happier lives with my SEBM(Stress and Employee Burnout Management) System. Start by diving your work into 3 main categories: -Work that needs to be done as it shows up like attending to patients without appointments or responding to emergencies. These need immediate attention and there is not much you can plan ahead of time -Work that is time-sensitive like patient appointments, planned procedures, meetings are all related to specific days and times -Work that needs to be done ASAP but is not really time-sensitive. Some tasks need to be completed and you can fit it into gaps you have available like admin tasks that you can put on a to-do list not a calendar #timemanagement #healthcare #hospital #stressmangement #stressrelief #healthcareworkers #healthcareprofessionals

What to Expect If You Work in a Hospital It’s 7:00 am, and the hospital is already ‘alive’, because hospitals never sleep. It’s a 24-hour non stop service and care delivery system. Nurses are running between patients, the ER is buzzing & somewhere in the mix, a healthcare HR professional- you - are trying to hold it all together🤣 In healthcare, burnout does not come with flashing warning signs. It sneaks in. It is in the exhaustion you cannot shake after back-to-back recruitment drives. It is in the nights you lie awake wondering how to fill those critical roles that patients desperately need. It is in the silent guilt of feeling like you should have it all figured out, but don’t. You are always giving & supporting others who are also burnt out. Always solving problems (not surgeries o🤣). Balancing operational chaos with the very real human needs of your staff and patients. And if no one is pouring back into you, how do you then give what you already exhausted? Enough is enough. You don’t have to do it alone anymore. In 3 days, the HR in Healthcare Hub officially launches💃! Is it possible to break the cycle of turnover in the healthcare sector? NHS England is doing it, and one strategy alone has led to the retention of an additional 2,000 FTE employees in one year (find out which one below)! Their comprehensive retention program is centered around its People Promise to improve staff satisfaction, engagement, and retention across the healthcare system. Below are some of the key strategies they have implemented (and you can too!) 1️⃣ Flexible Working Opportunities: Jobs are advertised with flexible options, and systems for requesting flexibility (e.g., working hours) have been streamlined. 98% of over 600 flexible working requests were approved. 2️⃣ Stay Advocates and Proactive Conversations: The “Stay Advocates” program provides confidential discussions for staff members considering leaving. It aims to identify opportunities for workplace improvements (such as skill development or schedule adjustments) and reduce turnover rates. 3️⃣ Cost-of-Living Support: Initiatives include hardship funds, webinars, and tailored cost-of-living guides sent directly to employees, offering financial and emotional support. 4️⃣ High-Impact Actions for Early and Late Career Staff: Tools like mentorship programs, preceptorship frameworks, and menopause guidance address unique staff needs at different career stages. 5️⃣ Exemplar Organizations as Models of Excellence: A cohort of NHS organizations has implemented bundled People Promise interventions, resulting in improved morale, engagement, and the retention of an additional 2,000 FTE staff in one year! 6️⃣ International Recruitment and Retention: The NHS provides dedicated hubs and toolkits for internationally recruited staff, supporting them in their onboarding and career development, as well as improving workplace satisfaction. With this program, NHS aims to cultivate a more supportive, inclusive, and rewarding workplace for long-term staff retention and better patient outcomes. Liked this post?
