“There’s one question we get asked on a daily basis: “How much does it cost to build an oak frame house?” says Paul Edmunds, Director at Welsh Oak Frame. “There’s no single answer to this question as the total cost of building an oak frame home depends on a number of factors“ Read the blog post on our advice hub for more information. https://lnkd.in/eaVW8EQg #oakframe #luxuryhome #selfbuild #oakframehouse #newhome #dreamhome #selfbuild #architecture #architects #design #oakextension #oakgardenroom #gardenroom #extension #annexe #orangery

Stone pitching, landscape architecture, and slope management play vital roles in crafting visually captivating and sustainable outdoor areas. Implementing stone pitching correctly enhances the strength and beauty of walkways and retaining walls. Landscape design concentrates on the layout and organization of open spaces, taking into account both practicality and visual appeal. Techniques for slope treatment are essential for erosion control and ensuring the durability of inclined terrain. #LandscapeArchitecture #LandscapeDesign #LandscapeImplementation #LandscapeMaintenance #LandscapeSupervision #OutdoorDesign #SustainableLandscapes

Enhance the exterior of your outdoor space with low maintenance and drough tolerant ornamental grasses. These beauties should be cut back annually in March to 6" above the ground. Within weeks the grasses triple in size and need no other pruning during the year. Seriously, don't hedge these or shape them in any way throughout the year. Ornamental grasses are designed to provide a clean and minimalist look when cut and a lush aesthetic when fully grown. In the below images you can witness the growth and transformation of the native Gulf muhly grass, creating a visually stunning display that is sure to impress. - Landscape Architecture @heffnerdesignteam⠀ - #landscapearchitecture #landscapearchitect #landscapearchitectsmcallen #landscapearchitectsanantonio #landscapedesign #landscapedesigner #heffnerdesignteam #andrewheffner #heffnerlandscaping #landscapingnearme #landscapearchitectnearme #commercialdesign #residentialdesign #trimming #ornamentalgrasses

Why can’t my architect do planting plans too? Many landscape architects are skilled in creating planting plans as part of their services. These plans usually involve selecting and arranging plants within a landscape design, taking into account factors such as climate, soil conditions, aesthetics, and maintenance requirements. Landscape architects often have expertise in plant selection and a strong knowledge of local plant species that thrive in specific environments. They can develop a comprehensive planting plan that includes details on plant types, quantities, placement, and maintenance guidelines. However, the specific services provided by landscape architects can vary. While some may focus more on the overall design and planning, others offer a wider range of services that include detailed planting plans. It's best to discuss your specific needs with the landscape architect you're considering to ensure they can deliver the services you require. MOST FASCINATING BIRD AT NEST BUILDING -----'ZX The weaver bird is one of the most fascinating nest builders. Found in Africa and parts of Asia, these birds construct intricate, woven nests from grasses, leaves, and other plant fibers. The males create elaborate hanging nests, often shaped like spheres or elongated baskets, to attract females. Their precision in weaving is remarkable, and they use their beaks like sewing needles to knot the materials tightly. Another standout is the sociable weaver of southern Africa, which builds massive communal nests that house hundreds of birds. These nests, resembling large haystacks in trees or on utility poles, are among the largest in the bird world and can last for decades. The most fascinating bird in "construction" is arguably the bowerbird. Male bowerbirds, native to Australia and New Guinea, are master architects known for building intricate structures called "bowers" to attract mates. They meticulously arrange sticks, leaves, and brightly colored objects like flowers, berries, or even human-made items (e.g., bottle caps) to decorate their bowers. Each species of bowerbird has its own unique style of construction, and some even arrange their decorations by color or size, demonstrating remarkable aesthetic judgment and skill. This behavior highlights their ingenuity and creativity in "construction."

The figure below illustrates how grading (altering the slope of the land) can be used to improve or screen views around a property. Let's break down the concepts: 1. Enhancing Views * Scenario: The top image shows a house with a limited view. The existing grade slopes away from the house, blocking the view of a mountain and a lake. * Solution: By creating a "proposed grade" that slopes upwards towards the back of the property, the view is significantly improved. The house now has a clear line of sight to the mountain and the lake. 2. Screening Views * Scenario: The bottom image shows a house with an undesirable view of an industrial area with factories and smokestacks. * Solution: By creating a "proposed grade" that slopes upwards in front of the house, a berm or mound is created. This berm blocks the direct line of sight to the industrial area, effectively screening the view. Key Takeaways: * Grading is a powerful tool for landscaping and site design. * It can be used to enhance desirable views and screen out undesirable ones. * Careful planning and consideration of the surrounding environment are essential for successful grading. #grading #enhancingviews #screeningviews #landscaping #sitedesign

Random or Set Timber Lengths? A common question I ask Architects. Its important to educate as they aren't the same price. With Ceilings a Staggered Look is mostly always desired. Thats why we reccommend to use Random Lengths which will save you 30 percent on cost and 30 percent on wastage. With Walls we ofton want a seamless look with no joints. Where set lengths comes into play. Not to say that Random can't also be used on walls though. Lastly. considering the application is important; up to 4Metres in length sourcing Set Lengths is fine, over 4 its a little harder. #Setlengths #Randomlengths #Timber #Naturalproduct #wastage #sustainability #costsolutions
