New car sales figures announced today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) increased by 8.2% in January! Lisa Watson, our Director of Sales, has commented: “Continued growth in registrations provides cause for optimism in 2024. "However, electric vehicle (EV) registrations remain skewed by fleet sales, and demand is not where it needs to be if the 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel vehicles is to be realistic. Currently just one in five (21%) dealers believe the ban will actually go ahead, with infrastructure (72%) and lack of consumer interest (46%) being cited as the reasons why they’re not confident it will come into force. Motorists will need more incentives to switch to EVs, particularly as high upfront costs and a lack of sufficient infrastructure is continuing to act as a barrier to widespread adoption. “Increased registration figures do provide good news for dealers who have had to work hard to maximise sales as motorists jostle with the cost-of-living crisis. Continuing to utilise insights and tools to monitor trends and cater for demand will be key to ensuring profitability in 2024.” For the full article, visit https://loom.ly/7Tdss3c #SMMT #NewCarSales #NewCarRegistrations
