Much like the maintenance that needs done on your car each year, #Salesforce also requires #SystemMaintenance in order to run smoothly. These come in different forms, such as data cleansing, Release updates, and more.  This routine maintenance can often get ignored due to more pressing matters, but they can cause headaches long term if not kept up on.  So today I want to outline 5 areas of maintenance that can help prevent future headaches.    - Release Updates: Salesforce has 3 major releases each year, and along with them they offer us the ability to enable some features early. This afford us the chance to make sure these changes don’t impact our org, and the time to resolve them if they would.  These changes include security, feature improvements, and quality of life updates.  When ignored, these can cause unforeseen issues such as unexpected behavior from the platform, or interruptions to integrations.    - Managed Packages: We all love the appexchange, it offers us solutions to problems that others have faced before us.  It often plays a key factor in integrations as well as expanding Salesforce's functionality.  But if these installed apps are not routinely updated, this can throw a wrench in any business process.  Don’t neglect this simple process of updating your managed packages.    - Data Cleansing: Its important to regularly reassign records no longer owned by active users to prevent confusion and potential integration issues with other platforms relying on your Salesforce data.    - Technical Debt Clean Up: I've spoken on Technical debt before, its easy to accumulate and tough to remove. But this is critical to maintaining a healthy org. When unused configurations pile up, it causes confusion for admins and users alike. It slows down the process iterating on new features. Remove unused functionality from your org and make way for the new!   - Maintaining User Adoption: This one doesn’t sound like maintenance, but it has the same impact as keeping old data and neglecting system updates. New users will join and old users will change roles, this requires that we ensure Salesforce is providing them with the tools they need for success. 🚀𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 ⚖️ As the adoption of Salesforce grows, so does the need to manage Data Skew effectively. Data Skew occurs when a large number of records are owned by a single user or associated with a single parent record, leading to an imbalanced distribution of data. This imbalance can slow down system performance and even cause errors. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘄? In Salesforce, Data Skew happens when more than 10,000 records of one object are assigned to a single user or when a single parent record has more than 10,000 child records. For instance, if an account has over 10,000 associated contacts, this could cause significant performance issues due to data integrity constraints. 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘄: • 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘄: Occurs when many child records are linked to a single account. This can lead to record locking and sharing rule recalculation problems, severely impacting performance.  • 𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘄: Arises when a disproportionate number of records are owned by a single user. To prevent this, ensure an even distribution of records among users.  • Lookup Skew: Similar to Account Skew, but occurs with lookup relationships. When a parent record has too many child records, it can cause performance issues during updates. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘄: • 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘄: Distribute child records evenly across multiple parent records.  • 𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘄: Avoid assigning more than 10,000 records to a single user.  • 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘂𝗽 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘄: Ensure no single parent record has thousands of child records, and optimize workflows and processes to reduce performance strain.
