A brief summation of applying for jobs on LinkedIn: “How much does this position you have vacant pay?” “It’s a secret, and I’ll never tell.” “Ok, well ideally what’s the salary range you have set aside for this person?” “Somewhere between that of an unpaid intern and $785,000/yr.” “Perfect, I’m looking to be in that range as well. How do you determine how much to pay that person.” “We base it on the incumbent’s experience.” “Here is my expereince.” “WOW. You are the perfect candidate. You are exactly what we are looking for and you will transform our business. How much can we pay you?” “Based on the range provided, how about this?” *writes number on paper, folds it in half and slowly slides it across the table in this Long John Silver’s booth* “Sir, you are delusional. That is way more than the unpaid intern salary we had in mind. You will not be hearing from us.” *storms out after chipmonking four hushpuppies into their cheeks*

I'm back! (Not sure for how long) No, I wasn’t on a break. No, I wasn’t on vacation. No, I wasn’t having "me time." I was fighting to get some "me time." The last few days have been so hectic. - Fired two interns. - Onboarded 4 new clients. - Trying to hire some great talent. - Created over 100 posts by myself. - Fixed my systems (still working on it). And much more... Everything feels new to me. I don’t know everything! So I messed up a lot, but I’m still pushing through. -> I started earning six figures. -> I know how systems are built. -> I’ve become much more confident. -> I started working out six days a week. -> I know how to handle tough situations. -> I’ve grown my online community to 30k. -> I’m getting quality clients without outbound efforts. And I’m aiming to add one more achievement to this list: "Posting content five times a week on my personal brand." Growth is both scary and beautiful. I know because I’m living it right now. I don’t know what the future holds for me. But I’m sure I’m going to go far and make myself proud one day :) How are you all doing? Would love to know what's going on in your life.

Ever since April 20, Sunday mid-day has only had two full time employees (including me), 3 interns and 3 retainers/consultants producing almost 30 pages. Full time hands actually doing a bulk of it have been 2. These are some of the things I have learnt about challenges at work that are truly helping me grow up, and know the realities of life. Some are heartwarming, some stark and some just life truths. 1. No one is indispensable. Everything can be done and is done. A newspaper has come out for years and it will continue to do so. 2. You can ask for help and you will get it. Everyone in the newsroom has combined forces to pitch and write stories for SMD. It’s been a group effort. It takes a village. 3. We are capable of much more than we give ourselves credit for. We can do it all and more if we get down to it. 4. People will form negative narratives about you, without ever giving your side a thought. It’s the way it is. Nothing much to be done. Let it be. 5. People need someone to blame. Sometimes it will be you. 6. Showing up every day is courageous. If you can do that, and retain your true self, you are brave. If you can laugh, and work and not hold grudges, you are amazing. 7. Newspapers ask a lot of you. Best to keep your ego at the door, and just work, and focus on the larger story. It’s the only way. 8. Whoever has to leave, leaves. In the end it all makes sense. 9. Never make friends at work or hold expectations at work. Best to be great colleagues who can have a good time at work and play 10. Never stop growing and evolving and showing up. In the end all that matters is what are you trying to do. At SMD the effort is to take out a product that we are proud of and that is unique and true. Recruitment is tough, but come on... this? 🤯 We hear all the time about how job seekers shouldn't self-reject—how you should still apply even if you don’t tick every box on the job description. But seriously, should someone with 5+ years of experience be applying for an internship? Or someone with no experience at all be going for a VP role? 🤔 I get it, skills matter, but experience plays a huge part too. You might be a rockstar coder, but leading a team of 10 straight out of college? Not so much. Some lessons only come with time. On the flip side, we’ve got recruiters rejecting CVs based on things like age, location, or notice periods without a second glance. Where’s the balance? 🤷♀️ In an ideal world, candidates and recruiters would find that sweet spot. Maybe one day, we’ll get there. 😇

I just received a prospecting email from a well known CRM.... THAT I WROTE during the hiring process a few years ago! My copy, images... everything. How should I feel about this? 1.
