In many cases, a resume is going to be an employer’s first experience with “you.” It’s your first opportunity to present yourself as either an exceptional, one-of-a-kind option or just another face in the crowd (or a stack of resumes, as it were). “It was obvious the recruiter had never looked at my resume… They asked me about my current job and I’m clearly unemployed.” Not true. It’s just that the recruiter has looked at 746 other resumes since then. But, yes, they actually reviewed your resume. And, yes, they determined you were qualified when they invited you for a call. But when they called you, they had likely been just finishing up notes from their last call. And pulled up your name and resume in the ATS and called. They’re experienced enough to be able to screen the candidate without having your resume memorized. Now, the in-person hiring manager interview is different. It requires a lot more preparation and they should be very familiar with your specific resume. Each piece of the puzzle is different. Instead of calling out each piece as being a misfit, let the experts put the puzzle together for you. Sure, not all recruiters are awesome. But many are. So give them the benefit of the doubt, until they give you a reason not to. #recruiting101 #jobsearch #recruiters

Submitting a resume shouldn’t end in a black hole. It’s disappointing when a company requests your resume but then never follows up. I recently experienced this with Recruiting Consults. After submitting my resume, there was no acknowledgment, no feedback—just silence. While I understand that not every resume will result in a job offer, candidates deserve the courtesy of a response. A simple message saying "we’ve moved forward with other candidates" can make a huge difference. It allows professionals to move on instead of being left in limbo. Recruiters, remember: candidates invest time and effort in crafting resumes tailored to your roles. A brief update, even if it's a rejection, is a sign of respect. Let's encourage better communication across the hiring process, starting with resume submissions. Has anyone else had this happen? What are your thoughts on the lack of follow-up after submitting resumes? #Recruitment #JobSearch #ProfessionalCourtesy #CandidateExperience #HiringProcess

Recruiters spend on average 7 seconds reviewing a resume. Here is what I look for in that 7 seconds 👇 1. 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 When reviewing resumes, I quickly scan for pieces that match our job description. If you haven't taken the time to tailor your experience to match the job description, I will likely move on to the next resume. Highlight what makes you a perfect fit for that specific role! 2. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 My hiring managers want to see numbers. When I am reviewing resumes, I look for candidates who have quantified their experience. Instead of saying "improved sales," say "increased sales by 20% within six months." Quantify your accomplishments to show real impact. 3. 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 I would love to take the time to read each person's resume in depth, but the reality is I don't have the capacity for that. If you make it too difficult to pull what I need from the resume, you likely won't be successful. ▶ Ensure your format is clear & easy to read. ▶ Don't go over 2 pages. ▶ Stick to bullet points. ▶ Build in white space. 7 seconds isn't a lot of time to make a first impression. Focusing on the areas above can ensure that a recruiter gets the right information in that short time. Your resume should work for you, not against you. Friendly recruiting advice, your resume does not get you the job. The resume only cracks the door. How far that door opens depends on the recruiter, company, or job opening. Some care about tenure, some don't. Some care about location, some don't. Some care about industry/some don't. Some look at total years of education, some don't. Y'all see where I'm going with this? There is no correct resume because there is no standardized way companies look at resumes. I even argued with colleagues on old teams about profiles and we were even trained the same way. After your get someone to answer the door it's on you the rest of the way. This process even is the same as above. There is no standard way to rule people out or in. Hiring/Talent Acquisition is the business of people and no two people are the same. All you can do as a job seeker is to prepare the best you can, due your due diligence, and to make sure you are getting yourself in a place to succeed. #friendlyrecruiteradvice #jobseekeradvice #hiringnow #jobseekertips

Recruitment Tip Tuesday... brought to you on a Wednesday 😁 There are lots of simple yet impactful tips to enhance your resume. One super easy fix is to title your resume with your first and last name when you save the file. When a recruiter, HR member, or hiring manager downloads your resume (which most of us do at one point or another), the title is the first thing they see. By naming it after yourself, you make it easily identifiable and save time for both you and the recruiter. While it might not seem like a big deal, your recruiter will thank you for it! We are hiring and I would love to see your resume (with your name as the title) come through! 🎉 #ResumeTips #Recruiting #JobSearch

'Back to Basics' Resume Series! Part 2 In less than 6 seconds, a recruiter (myself + team included) will make a decision on if we are contacting you or not, based on your resume. That seems insane but at first glance, if there are more red flags than not, I'm not giving it another thought. If your resume is doing any of the following, it's time to tighten it up: ❎ More than 2-3 pages in length ❎ Has an objective statement vs a profile section ❎ Is a copy + paste of your current + previous job descriptions ❎ Has your photo ❎ Heavily relies on formatting, headers, footers, etc. ❎ Has spelling mistakes ❎ Uses an inappropriate email address OR an employer issued email address as a method of contact. These are only a few of the hiccups I see on a daily basis. To help avoid these + other bumps, I've created a recruiter preferred resume template for you to get yourself headed in the direction (calls from recruiters, interviews with hiring managers + job offers!) Pretty or ATS focused resume??? I have come across some very contrasting comparisons of the best ways to set up your resume to get the most bang for your buck. I have seen formatting for the ATS side to just keep it generic with with all kinds of key words and skills. The opposite has been the advise of the pretty version. I have been told that one should be visually appealing with accomplishments, achievements, and big #'s. I am not sure what is the best route because we are all different people and our resume will show that. After 20+ years in the staffing and talent sourcing world, One thing is for sure - Have MULTIPLE versions of your resume to share so you are prepared for the job you are hunting. ** PS - I have paid in the $1000's for help building my resume and skills to interview for jobs over the years and I KNOW it helps! While I have personally done thousands of interviews, I know that asking for help to build a good resume and interviewing skills is investing in a GREAT future!!**

You upload your resume. Then, they ask for the same info again. C’mon, recruiters—why the extra work? Job seekers are already tailoring their resumes. They research companies and craft thoughtful applications. But repeating details in a form? Frustrating. Let’s streamline the process for candidates. Respect their time and make applying easier. The goal is to find the best fit. Not to test their patience. #Recruitment #JobSearch #HiringProcess #typescouts
