In 2024, AI will continue to create, not diminish workforce opportunities. That's according to Gartner's 9 Future Work Trends for 2024. I talk often about this when it comes to recruitment: the adoption of AI-based automation tools doesn't spell the end for human recruiters. As the report states, recruiters "will have new responsibilities including crafting prompts for GenAI tools and reviewing and applying the output of these tools." Gartner also predicts that GenAI will play a role in 70% of text and data-heavy tasks by 2025, up from less than 10% in 2023. For recruiters that means a massive increase in time they can spend on more impactful tasks like talking to new candidates. In short, AI-driven automation tools represent a win-win for the overall goals of hiring teams and their recruiters. And 2024 will demonstrate this more than ever before. This is going to be a disappointing post. Salty, even. The #HRTech market DELIVERED in 2023, no? I've never seen solution providers deliver so much product & forward-looking solutioning. It was a banner year for #AI, #wellbeing, #remotework enablement, HR #analytics, #automation, and consumerization for personalization. In other words, product, product, product. Jason Averbook and I hosted a panel of industry analysts on our Digital Meetup, and we asked each to give HR Tech #vendors a GRADE for 2023. An industry report card. I warned you, this is going to be disappointing. F, D, C-, C C+. Grades we gave #worktech solution providers. In spite of everything you built and shipped -- in a bullish market, no less. Did it cut through the noise, deliver net new capabilities to #HR & the workforce, translate to business value? "You all sounded the same." "No one means what they say." "You're too afraid of missing out on a buzzword, so it's hard to tell anyone apart." "You're building product without actually servicing the product." "We're still building solutions the same way. Someone's going to enter the space and radically change it, or some startup will come along and actually build product differently." "Customers give an F on service and integrations." Mercer's HR Tech Confidence Check survey confirms 5 in 10 organizations are either dissatisfied or VERY dissatisfied with their HR Technology spend. 60% of organizations rate adoption of HR tech as below expectations. We're spending $5T on work tech that just generally disappoints us. 🤯 Now for the most exciting thing I have to say: IT'S NOT THE TECH. At all. Usually. You're building generally great product across the board. But that's all you know how to talk about, and that's not what people are buying. So how do we fix this? 🤯 Be bolder with your message and positioning --- seriously, times TEN. 🚫 Put your Key Features away. Tell a better story, and make it about people and their outcomes. 🤨 Show me proof that you make work better. 🌐 Understand the market well enough to cut the bullshit. Do your research. As in, conduct market research. Done well, it will pay for itself over & over. 🧠 Tell buyers what to care about; tell them what to DO about it. Lead the conversation. Vendors offer some of the best thought leaders out there, you just don't get the same street cred because you're biased. Call bullshit on that, too. 🤕 Most organizations are on a bigger transformation journey; connect the dots. Think like a CEO; learn to talk business. The cost of doing nothing to solve a persistent business problem should HURT. Make it. 🎯 Tell me my stats are trash. They are, because we commonly apply the wrong measures of success. Work with your customers on the right measures of success and hold everyone within striking distance accountable to them.
