There are 6 PR pros for every 1 reporter! This story or one like it crops up every now and then causing anxiety for those of us in the business of communication and public relations. Add the fear of AI to the mix and it can create sleepless nights for some. But here's the catch...while the media is important, #communication is about more than media relations. When I was the head of public affairs for U.S. Department of Labor, there were 78 people in that office. Only about five regularly interacted with the media. Others were writers, graphic designers, video editors, TV and radio experts, speechwriters, photographers, digital specialists, and the list goes on. One more time for those in the back: Communication is about more than #MediaRelations. #CorporateCommunications #PublicRelations

I am looking for a great PR person or agency for an innovative music tech product (no, not AI based) for the German speaking regions. Somebody who is not just sending emails to their network, but actually pitching and working the project. Ideally somebody who can cover all sorts of media, not a specialist for a segment of media. Any suggestions? It's pretty urgent.

One of the least satisfying things about working in, or with a large PR agency is the way clients are allocated to staff members. Often you’ll have someone working on an account who has no prior experience (or even interest) just because they have the capacity. I always found that frustrating. I firmly believe that to PR something, you have to be passionate about it. Or at least care quite a lot. The reality is, PR is a hard job, there are lots of PRs to journalists these days and if you can’t convey genuine interest you won’t succeed in persuading any journalist to cover the client. It’s why we work with experienced freelance talent who we diligently match to each client. One example - we have a French hospitality tech client, and we have matched someone living in France who has specific hospitality experience - lots of experience, and personal enthusiasm - to work on this. And our biggest client - the business association Made in Britain - official is staffed by an ex journalist who has also worked in PR at a similar business organisation. When a PR inquiry call starts with “How many journalists do you know”… Yes, I did say I am looking for freelance PR projects but I hear that the Universe requires specific instructions. So trying this again. After all, who wants to get on the ‘I am funny’ side of the Universe?
