Issuance of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) has seen a 13-fold rise in #SoutheastAsia between 2019 and 2023, outpacing global growth rates. Despite criticisms of potential #greenwashing, proponents argue that RECs ultimately provide environmental benefits, as they provide a supplementary income to #renewables developers which help to spur industry growth. Friday 26th April is World IP Day. The theme of #WorldIPDay2024 is #IP and the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. Throughout the week we will be sharing various news posts surrounding IP and the Sustainable Development Goals - keep a look out, and let us know your thoughts! Lets go back to 2020 when Simon Haslam wrote an article titled 'Innovation in renewable energy | Solar'. The article discussed the interest in renewable energy and listed 10 of America's largest corporations who were running on a minimum of 100% renewable energy and producing a surplus they could sell back to other providers. In 2020 there were six times as many solar installations than there were in 2010. In 2023 Solar Energy UK reported "A total of 130,596 (solar panels) were mounted on UK rooftops last year...the number is almost the same as those installed in 2019, 2020 and 2021 put together." Utility PV Solar Leads Renewable Revolution: Costs Hit Record Low, Surpassing Coal in Asia In a groundbreaking development, renewable energy costs in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region have plummeted to an all-time low in 2023, signaling a new era of affordability and sustainability in power generation. According to a comprehensive analysis by Wood Mackenzie, the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) from renewables has become increasingly competitive, undercutting traditional coal power and setting the stage for a cleaner energy future.
