The Global Energy Transition: A Pressing Shift for a Sustainable Future. 🎙️ An interview with Mauricio Da Rocha Fragoso, Director at CLS of Energies & Infrastructures. 🌊 “CLS is fully committed in diving into the #offshore #wind world, where we are making significant strides. We are currently undertaking more projects than ever before. This clean energy sector is booming, and we’re advancing in the same pace through our innovative decision to develop our own #Lidar buoys. A synergy of University of Maine and CLS expertise in materials science, buoy systems and offshore operations allowed the development of the very first unit of our DeepCLiDAR, Carbon Trust Stage 2 certified and now embarked on an industrial mode on the premises of our susbsidiary CLS Southern Africa. This investment in renewables is a key part of CLS’s strategic plan through 2030, demonstrating our deep commitment to supporting offshore wind. And with our subsidiary Meteodyn, we pioneered #onshore wind over 2 decades ago, and we are proud to bring that pioneering spirit to offshore wind as well.” Interested? 👉 Read the full interview: https://lnkd.in/efvmRSwE 📇 Lets get in touch! #offshorewind #LiDAR #innovation #SARsatellites #renewables

Turbines are a wind-wind solution 😳🚩
Absolutely stunning! 😱 We’re reporting from the Baltic Sea, where we’re constructing our second #offshorewind farm in Germany: Baltic Eagle. Spoiler alert: It’s a true engineering challenge. 1. Weather conditions and the coordination of professionals and suppliers from across Europe play a crucial role. 2. A massive vessel 🚢 transports the components from Rønne (Denmark 🇩🇰) and assembles the wind turbines directly on the seabed foundations. This project, developed in collaboration with Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), will feature 50 #windturbines, each towering 107 meters above sea level. Baltic Eagle, with a capacity of 476 MW, will supply energy equivalent to the consumption of over 450,000 German households and prevent the emission of 800,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. 📽 Don’t miss this incredible video about a crucial #renewable energy project that continues to lead the way in the global #energytransition.

🌬 With 2024 around the corner, we only have a few years left to achieve the climate goal of a 55% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 in the Netherlands. Offshore wind plays a vital role in this. The infrastructure challenges for offshore wind are immense, but not impossible. Deltares is working on the sustainable and cost-effective construction and upscaling of this infrastructure. That work ranges from risk assessment and the design of realistic and future-resilient boundary conditions to innovative solutions such as environmentally friendly installation techniques for foundations and pipelines. Most of the work is done together with partners, to achieve the greatest possible impact. 🚀 Germany Accelerates Offshore Wind Development 🚀 Exciting news from Germany as authorities unveil a draft plan for offshore lease areas, aiming for a total capacity of 60 GW! 🌊 Over the next 15 years, we can expect massive growth in offshore wind energy, driven by this strategic roadmap. However, the latest auction round has entered into negative bidding once again, echoing last year's results. While this indicates strong interest, it also highlights the need for adjustments in the auction design. To ensure success, future auctions should focus on three key areas: 1️⃣ Ensuring higher commitment to project completion. 2️⃣ Redirecting income from negative bidding into the local offshore wind supply chain, including harbors, grid infrastructure, and worker education. 3️⃣ Promoting EU local content. The future for offshore wind is bright! 🌬️⚡ #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #Sustainability #Germany #GreenEnergy #CleanTech #WindPower #Geophysics #Hydrospatial #Survey #OceanMapping

Good update from The Crown Estate on future collaboration with the ESO. Developing the required transmission infrastructure is a critical part of reaching net zero and meaningful engagement is going to be crucial, particularly where offshore energy and use of the seabed are concerned. Also good to see recognition of both nature recovery and communities in the respective statements from TCE and the ESO. In the longer term it will be interesting to see how hydrogen becomes part of the discussion with the establishment of the Future System Operator in 2024 (?). Lots going on! #DESNZ #NGESO #OFGEM #ISOP

Helping businesses to connect with best in industry professionals in the energy and renewables sectors #recruitment #renewables #energy
Floating offshore wind turbines are a solution to wind's space problem, but they come with their own engineering challenges. The total installed global capacity of wind grew to upwards of 900GW in 2023, making the sector an essential part of the energy transition. However, with almost all online turbines being fixed in place, there is a significant obstacle: space. With shallow water sites running out of space the solution is floating offshore wind, but the shift out to sea presents a myriad of engineering hurdles. The move requires floating structures, able to support increasingly large turbines and withstand difficult weather conditions. The potential of the sector is evident, and innovation is catalysing the feasibility of floating offshore wind, as well as driving down the costs.
