Satellite telecommunications could plug the existing gap in network coverage. It is a technological solution for communications in difficult terrains and at sea. Given the country’s multiple mountain chains, heavily forested areas and far-flung archipelagos, a large part of the population is underserved. Satcom could connect such regions with greater ease than terrestrial networks. Navigating Starlink Disruption in the Maritime Connectivity Market: In the maritime sector, for many years, the long-sought “Treasure Island” of connectivity could be summed up in four words: As good as shore. “We would always ask, can we get as good as shore connectivity? Can we have a broadband connection on board the vessel? That’s what we termed as the best connectivity, in […] The post Navigating Starlink Disruption in the Maritime Connectivity Market appeared first on Via Satellite. #neuco #satellite

Shipping companies can now access lower-cost ship-to-shore communications through Intelsat’s "FlexMaritime Vantage" service, which offers unused aviation network bandwidth. While there is no committed information rate (CIR), companies can enjoy high-speed connectivity at reduced rates, with speeds up to 60 Mbps download and 6 Mbps upload. FlexMaritime Vantage is comparable to Starlink but offers added reliability by allowing ships to switch between different Intelsat services. Existing Intelsat users can upgrade easily with minimal equipment changes, ensuring seamless and cost-effective maritime communications.
