Amendments on the Domestic Violence Act, 116 of 1998: Applications to Children. The main objective of the Act is to provide for the issuing of protection orders with regard to domestic violence and for matters connected therewith.

What the authorities are not telling the Australian public is that domestic violence victims in Australia are often left without the protection and justice they deserve. 💔 The system meant to safeguard them fails in so many ways: 🚨Protection orders applications are often dropped or the order breached without consequences and on some occasions the police identify the victim as the perpetrator. 🚨Victims are faced with cold, unsupportive reporting processes, often met with victim-blaming and minimising by police. 🚨Perpetrators use excuses in investigations and during negotiations with police and prosecutors that get accepted, and charges get dropped, leaving victims even more vulnerable. 🚨The system allows ongoing abuse through the family and criminal courts, further traumatising survivors. 🚨Perpetrators almost ALWAYS get bail. 🚨Support services are stretched too thin, offering little real assistance to those in need. The human rights of the perpetrator including their right to liberty are often prioritised over the victims right to safety, leaving them trapped in fear. It’s time for a change.
