Thanks to J.S. Held LLC for celebrating National Engineers Week and including me among some truly great engineering colleagues in their post! I was working with my daughter yesterday to build a tsunami wave for a science project, and it occurred to me the importance of our time together. Only 13% of professional engineers today are women. As a father of three girls, I can do something about that. My daughter has said that when she grows up she wants to build houses and sell them for $1 so that families without money have a place to live. I’m not sure I can do the accounting for her, but I can definitely encourage her to keep pursuing her dream. Here are some ideas for encouraging the young female engineer in your life: 1. Build something with them (it doesn’t matter what!) 2. Tell them about something you engineered at work today (you may find they are surprisingly interested) 3. Explore STEM learning opportunities: after-school classes, camps, museums, science centers 4. Highlight female role models in engineering (look up the Ashley Kimbel story) 5. Encourage them to fail (and try again, of course)! On that last point, my girls and I discussed the following quote from Denzel Washington: “Do you have the guts to fail? If you don’t fail, you’re not even trying. To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.” #NationalEngineersWeek #Engineering #GirlDad #GirlsInStem #EngineerHerFuture

Life as an engineer is a unique journey filled with challenges, excitement, and endless opportunities for innovation and growth. It's a profession that demands a curious mind, a passion for problem-solving, and a relentless drive to make a difference in the world. From the moment you step into the world of engineering, you're thrust into a dynamic environment where every day brings new challenges to overcome. Whether you're designing cutting-edge technology, optimizing complex systems, or tackling real-world problems, there's never a dull moment in the life of an engineer. The convocation ceremony for me is not just a formality. It's a rite of passage a symbolic crossing from one chapter of life to the next. It's a moment to savor the memories of late-night study sessions, the thrill of discovery in the lab, and the friendships forged over shared challenges. #convocationceremony #classof2023 #engineering #scoe

It's National Engineers Week! This year, the theme is "Welcome to the Future," celebrating today's achievements and paving the way for a brighter and more diverse future in engineering. We had the chance to speak with some of our talented team members about their experiences as CS engineers and their thoughts on the future of the engineering industry. You can read more about what Wes, and our other interviewees, had to say in our feature #EWeek blog post! Read more on our blog: https://lnkd.in/eukeRWye

In honor of Presidents Day and the start of Engineers week, I wanted to highlight the only president with official background in engineering, President Herbert Hoover with this quote. For me engineering has always been a constant force to do better and reach new heights. Merging innovative methods and emerging technologies has lead to really focus on how we can best improve the lives of our communities through the designs we create in the present and for future generations. How has engineering helped shape who you are today? #Engineersweek #presidentsday #engineering
