In honor of Presidents Day and the start of Engineers week, I wanted to highlight the only president with official background in engineering, President Herbert Hoover with this quote. For me engineering has always been a constant force to do better and reach new heights. Merging innovative methods and emerging technologies has lead to really focus on how we can best improve the lives of our communities through the designs we create in the present and for future generations. How has engineering helped shape who you are today? #Engineersweek #presidentsday #engineering

Celebrating the legacy of innovators is essential in shaping the future of our industries. Jim Maxwell, a towering figure in deep foundation construction, recently passed, leaving behind an indelible mark on the AEC sector. As chair of Hub Foundation Co., Inc., Jim transformed a family business into a leader, pioneering the adoption of advanced drilling technologies in the United States. His foresight led to the acquisition of the first European drill rig sold in the U.S., paving the way for future advancements in our field. Under his leadership, Hub Foundation not only expanded its service offerings but also completed critical projects like the Boston Big Dig and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Green Line Extension. Jim’s commitment to collaboration extended beyond his own firm. He generously shared his resources with others in the industry, fostering an environment that prioritizes collective success over competition. His spirit of mentorship and dedication to the advancement of students in engineering reflect his understanding that the growth of the industry relies on knowledge transfer and innovation. As we remember Jim Maxwell, let us be inspired to uphold his values of communication, trust, and collaboration within our organizations. In honoring his legacy, we are reminded that our industry thrives on the shared commitment to excellence and mutual support. Let’s continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in AEC construction, honoring the path forged by leaders like Jim. What lessons have you learned from pioneers in your field? #LeadershipInAEC #InnovationInConstruction #DeepFoundations #JimMaxwell #Collaboration #Mentorship #EngineeringExcellence Image Source: James Leggate
