Death Valley National Park in California is often an arid area, but faced flash flooding totaling 1.46 inches of rain. The damages among the park were vast. The CRC team was quick to respond, clearing debris and allowing for essential services to resume within 48 hours. Although our teams faced extreme heat and tight deadlines, we are proud to say the project was completed on time, while maintaining high-standards and safe execution. No, it’s not a hurricane or a tropical storm. It’s rain, and a lot of it, in Miami. Streets are flooded, and there’s plenty of property damage. If we want a resilient future-proof city, Miami’s civic leaders will need to make the right investments in infrastructure. We need stormwater infrastructure, including larger stormwater pipes and inlets, gravity drainage wells, pump stations, and exfiltration trenches. In addition, we need investments in coastal infrastructure includes seawalls, living shorelines, and green infrastructure. Not glamorous, but needed. What else do you think Miami needs? At the Partnership for Miami we see the top issues as (1) transit and infrastructure, (2) housing that’s affordable, and (3) a better K12 and higher education ecosystem. #Miamidade #305 #resilience #sustainability #mdc

The time it takes to complete a restoration process will depend on several factors, including the extent of the damage, the type of damage, and the size of the property. For example, a small area of water damage may take only a few days to restore, while a large-scale flood that has affected multiple areas may take several weeks or even months to restore. #purocleanofpembrokepines #pembrokepinesfl #damagerestoration

With more intense rainfall and shifting weather patterns, our drainage system is having to process more water than ever before. Despite significant investment, into upgrading our existing infrastructure and building new sewers to allow for the growing population and changing climate, there is still more to do – and crucially more to do together. Many parts of the drainage system such as road drains, gullies, ditches, rivers and canals, all have different owners. This means, when the entire system becomes overwhelmed, we can’t solve things alone. By joining forces with local councils, Lead Local Flood Authorities, the Environment Agency and National Highways and even customers, we can continue to address the problem locally. Through flooding partnerships like Norfolk Strategic Flood Alliance through Norfolk County Council, we are beginning to see first-hand, how we can deliver real change at a local level. 🚨 **Flooding Resilience: A Collective Responsibility** 🌧️ Flooding is one of the most pressing challenges of our time, and it's not going away. Working in the Norfolk Strategic Flooding Alliance (NSFA), I’ve seen firsthand the vital importance of a collaborative approach to tackling this issue. In the past two years, our region has been hit with extremes, from record-breaking heat to relentless rainfalls, These are not isolated incidents but clear indicators of a changing climate. With communities at risk, the need to adapt and respond is more urgent than ever. Our collective drainage systems are under immense pressure. They were designed decades ago for a smaller population and more predictable weather patterns (and without our concrete jungle effect...) Now, with a third more people living in our region, intense rainfall, and changing land use, these systems are pushed to their limits. At Anglian, we’ve invested millions in upgrading our infrastructure. But as large as this investment is, we can’t solve it alone. Flooding is not just about sewers; it’s about road drains, ditches, rivers, and more. When each of these systems is overwhelmed, the impact can be widespread. That’s why it’s critical for all stakeholders including local councils, the Environment Agency, Highway Authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities, IDB’s and the communities we serve to work together (when you get an engaged community then it really flys!) The Norfolk Strategic Flooding Alliance is a great example of what can be achieved through partnership. Since its formation in 2021, they’ve worked tirelessly to protect communities across Norfolk from the risks of flooding and by focusing on a catchment-based approach, we’re able to tackle the root causes of flooding, rather than just the symptoms. From clearing ditches to installing nature-based solutions like NFM & Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), we’re not only mitigating flood risks but also enhancing the natural environment, put bluntly, when homes are being flooded and farmland is being destroyed; finger pointing isn’t going to prompt action. Flooding is complex, and solving it requires a long-term, multi-agency effort. By joining forces, sharing expertise, data and engaging with the public, we can make real strides in protecting our region from the devastating effects of flooding. We’re not just managing water, we’re safeguarding our communities for the future. *The last hashtag I would love to catch on. #WaterManagement #FloodResilience #ClimateAction #Collaboration #AnglianWater #NothingIsMaintenanceFree #MakeMaintenanceSexy
