September is Mold Awareness Month - and we have a lot to say about mold. Some quick need-to-knows for your Thursday: Mold is caused by excess moisture, poor ventilation, flooding, high humidity, and spreads rapidly. Mold exposure happens through normal breathing and physical contact - and can cause respiratory issues, skin reactions, and in severe cases, cognitive impacts.

🚨 Heat Stroke Awareness: How You Can Help 🚨 With rising temperatures, it's crucial to be aware of the dangers of heat stroke and how to assist someone who might be experiencing it. Heat stroke is a serious medical emergency that requires immediate attention. Here are the most common steps you can take to help: 1. Call for Emergency Help: Dial emergency services immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and professional help is essential. 2. Move to a Cooler Area: Get the person out of the sun and into a shaded or air-conditioned space. 3. Cool the Body: Use whatever means available to lower their body temperature. This could include: - Applying cool, wet cloths or ice packs to the armpits, neck, and groin. - Spraying or sponging the person with cool water. - Fanning air over the person while wetting their skin. 4. Hydrate: If the person is conscious and able to drink, provide them with water or a sports drink to help rehydrate. 5. Monitor Condition: Keep a close eye on their symptoms and be prepared to perform CPR if they become unresponsive. Recognizing the signs of heat stroke early can save lives. Symptoms include high body temperature, altered mental state or behavior, nausea, and a rapid pulse. What is Heat Stroke? It's the least common but most severe heat-related illness, a life-threatening emergency when the body's cooling system fails. Recognize the signs: mental changes, hot skin, rapid breathing, and more. Be prepared to act fast! Remember these emergency steps if you suspect heat stroke: - Check for signs and symptoms, like unresponsiveness or confusion. - Call 9-1-1 immediately for medical assistance. - Provide general care by cooling the person rapidly and monitoring them closely. Heat stroke can occur at temps above 100°F (38°C) or due to factors like humidity, inadequate fluid intake, or certain medical conditions. Stay safe and informed during hot weather!
