Joseph Nichol and I take another deep dive on Gaza, Hezbollah, Iran, the IDF's readiness for future scenarios, and why Western concepts like averting escalation only invite more aggression in this region. #ICC #ICJ The goal cannot be speed. The goal has to be diligent investigation and truth seeking. We should expect our judicial institutions to act efficiently and without delays, as that is a key component of justice for victims and survivors, however primarily I expect them to pursue the evidence and take their time to do that according to the strictest legal and procedural requirements and the highest ethics. Courts have to be above the fray of impatient public opinion and they should not act like other policy or operational entities which have different mandates and different sources and methods of information (as opposed to evidence) gathering. Always thought provoking podcasts! 🙏
The ICC is no stranger to criticism, but the announcement of an arrest warrant for a sitting head of state (Vladimir Putin) helped the Office of the Prosecutor regain some street credibility in Ukraine. Can they keep this momentum going and take the same quick action for Israel-Palestine? New episode with Mark Kersten out tomorrow. With Janet H.
