Not good news for the Isreli government. A countries credit rating affects decisions for inward flows of capital investment both at state level and Multinational corporations. State level borrowing can also be impacted. The rating agency claims the Gaza conflict correlates to this. We do know, the economy has almost come to a standstill. Moody’s upgrades rating outlook on Turkiye to positive Moody’s Ratings raised Turkey’s credit rating for the first time in more than a decade, marking the latest milestone in the country’s efforts to return to orthodox economic policies. The rating was upgraded two notches to B1, from B3, with a positive outlook. Turkey still remains four notches below investment grade, on par with Jordan and Bangladesh. Damning report on #Lebanon from Fitch Ratings Ratings has affirmed Lebanon's Long-Term Foreign- and Local-Currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDR) at 'Restricted Default' (RD). Fitch has subsequently withdrawn Lebanon's IDRs and Country Ceiling. Fitch Ratings is withdrawing Lebanon's ratings as Fitch no longer has sufficient information to maintain the ratings due to the unavailability of certain key data. Accordingly, Fitch will no longer provide ratings (or analytical coverage) for Lebanon. These ratings are unsolicited and the issuer has no obligation to provide information.

This upgrade, from B to B+ with a positive outlook, reflects increased confidence in the effectiveness of policies implemented since June 2023. The recent shift towards more investor-friendly economic policies, including significant monetary tightening, has been instrumental in reducing macroeconomic and external vulnerabilities. Notably, inflation expectations have eased, and external liquidity risks have moderated, paving the way for more favorable financing conditions. Despite its downward trend, inflation remains a significant factor undermining Türkiye's economy. 🚀 🇹🇷 Turkey's recent credit rating upgrade highlights the positive impact of returning to conventional monetary policy. Previously, Turkey's unorthodox approach—slashing interest rates amid rising inflation—led to significant economic challenges. The Turkish lira dramatically depreciated from 3.76 per USD in January 2018 to 31.9 per USD by mid-2024. This caused inflation to skyrocket, peaking at 88.5% in late 2022, before stabilizing at 64.8% in early 2024. 🌐 Energy imports, crucial for Turkey, saw costs soar, further fueling inflation. Interest rate cuts from 19% to 14% in 2021 caused the lira to lose nearly half its value in that year alone. Conventional monetary policies, typically involving raising interest rates to curb inflation, could have mitigated these issues.
