As a general rule, our society tends to be quite poor at discerning quality, often defaulting to the consensus popular choice. This tendency starts in high school, where decisions are heavily influenced by what is deemed popular or widely accepted. For example, hiring practices often favor Ivy League graduates, corporations follow best corporate practices without question, and people read books recommended by The New York Times. There is very little actual evaluation of whether something or someone is genuinely capable of performing a task. In my personal experience, the best strategy is to look outside of these socially recognized groups. By doing so, you can often find absolutely brilliant books, discover people who are great to work with—very kind and intelligent—and uncover various strategies or vacation spots that are cheaper or smarter. These options are frequently overlooked because they are not part of the "cool kids club," but they can provide significant benefits and an asymmetric advantage. For my art and my paintings, I specifically seek out these unconventional sources. One of the lifebloods of inspiration for me is Rich Andoh and his "Hiddenbody" work. This approach allows me to tap into a wellspring of creativity that is often ignored by mainstream channels. Watch his documentary keymakers now on youtube. https://lnkd.in/ekHh6cAM

✍🏼 Note to self (and others): Don't overlook the value of your free-time projects in your job search! Hands-on experience gained through personal projects can reflect your capabilities better than the official experience. Co-organizing La Casa house parties in Utrecht, Netherlands with Santiago Gervaz and Antti Saari taught me more about event and project planning, marketing, budgeting, communications, and ticketing than university courses usually have time or resources to do. Check out the Youtube-video shot by Euan Noble in the link below to get a glimpse of our work. We started from scratch and built up, ending up selling 700 tickets in 4 events in just 5 months!💥 (Thank you for everyone else involved as well, you know who you are! #Teamwork) Bottom line: Don't let your hard work on personal projects go unnoticed. They can give you the experience and skills you need to succeed in your career. 💪 Link: https://lnkd.in/dkgY4qjT
