It’s 2024 and there are still communities living without electricity? In “America”? "The Greatest Nation on Earth?" Native Americans, no less, The original settlers….. That. Is. Pure. Injustice. Shameful.

It's deeply troubling that 13,000 Navajo Nation families in New Mexico, including 74-year-old Katherine Benally, have been living without electricity for so long. Considering the historical context of how their land was taken, this lack of basic infrastructure is a stark reminder of ongoing injustices. However, it's heartening to see initiatives like Light Up Navajo stepping in to bridge this gap, providing not just electricity but also a measure of restorative justice. Let's support and amplify these efforts to ensure all communities receive the essential services they deserve.

Excellent, but why does a non-profit have to do it? Every person should have access to electrical services at public expense. In Canada there was an Electrification Project in the 1950’s intended to ensure access for everyone. The program worked. Our northern communities have diesel generators to provide power as do our remote Indigenous communities. There are still challenges but effort is made to maintain the standard. It’s interesting that this should be happening on the Navajo Nation, an indigenous community. Indigenous communities in both Canada & the US deserve better treatment. In Canada we say the country was founded by English & French settlers. That’s wrong, Canada was founded by English, French & Indigenous peoples. Without the help of the Indigenous peoples we “white guys” wouldn’t have stood a chance. The same is true of the US.

Is this in USA? It's unbelievable. Sheer injustice. How shameful to have deprived the original owners of this land, the native Americans, the very Basic necessities of life. CNN
