We've been humbled by the response to the Future Lidos toolkit launch last week. A huge thank you to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for inviting, challenging, and supporting us all to deliver something that has the potential to make a really big difference to health, well being, community and place #lido projects. To those in progress, and to those emerging.

Through the launch, we're reaching out to a whole breadth of stakeholders in and around #leisure, #lido and #swimming communities. We want to engage and inspire the diversity and creativity of the sector, and harness the immense potential to deliver more fun, distinct, loved outdoor pools. We're continuing discussions across the funding landscape, to see how we unlock monies that can make more these valuable public luxuries a reality.
The scale of the project, coupled with dedication of the team who have delivered this has been invigorating from the start. If you do just one thing, please read the credits page, which lists a vast array of talent who, led by the outstanding Deborah Aydon, deserve an abundance of credit and gratitude for going well above and beyond. Contributing, reading, reviewing and commenting has been a joy and a privilege. The depth, cohesion and clarity of this site and the articulation is exceptional and has grown my knowledge.
This project concept started small in the pandemic, at end of 2020, then formed in February 2021, as a humble Zoom call (like everything else at that time). It was driven by insight from a decade figuring out Tynemouth Outdoor Pool, fascinating conversations with Deborah Aydon, Emma Pusil (Lido Guide), Richard Lamburn and Chris Romer-Lee, which provided evidence of the schemes and the public support, the challenges that existed and the opportunity and need to shape a strategy - to share and collaborate, to change the narrative, to build the evidence base - to bust the myths - to architect the decade of the Lido.
While we celebrate this achievement, this is just another milestone on a journey of creation. And so we welcome any comments and feedback on the toolkit, and of course any help!
The Future Lidos Group will continue to meet online monthly to connect, collaborate, support and inspire individuals and pools. We are exploring a variety of ways to fund more of this work. And of course, there is always more research to be gathered to build the evidence base further! Watch this space...
Finally, I couldn't finish without final virtual big hug to the Future Lidos steering group of Niall Kenny, Chris Romer-Lee, Caroline Kindy, Judi Hughes and Deborah Aydon. You are absolute legends. I am honoured to have fallen in with a good crowd, and spent time with you working on this. Hopefully see you in person one of these days for a swim and a brew! Whatever the weather.
