🌿 Behind every preserved artifact is a team of unsung heroes: Conservators 🌿 Conservation is so much more than just restoring the past—it's about safeguarding our shared cultural heritage for future generations. Whether it's painstakingly repairing delicate textiles, stabilizing centuries-old manuscripts, or ensuring a historic painting survives another hundred years, the work of conservators is rooted in a deep respect for history and meticulous care. Their skill is not only technical but profoundly artistic. Using cutting-edge technology alongside ancient methods, they bridge the gap between the past and the future. Without their dedication, the stories told by the objects in museums, archives, and galleries might fade into obscurity. Let's take a moment to recognize the passion, patience, and precision that go into the preservation of history. The past isn’t just being remembered—it’s being protected. Grateful for the work conservation teams do every day to keep history alive👏 #ConservationMatters #CulturalHeritage #PreservingHistory #MuseumProfessionals #eminspost #eminmuseum #talktothemuseum

Medieval European Broadswords: Power, Craft, and Legacy The broadsword is one of the most iconic weapons of medieval Europe, embodying both the strength and artistry of the era. With its wide blade and crossguard, the broadsword was designed for powerful slashing and thrusting in battle. Forged using advanced techniques like pattern welding and later the more refined crucible steel, these swords balanced durability with flexibility, ensuring they could withstand the rigors of combat without breaking. On the battlefield, the broadsword was a symbol of authority and prowess. Wielded by knights and warriors, it was not only a tool of war but a representation of the knightly code of chivalry. These swords were often customized with intricate engravings, ornate hilts, and pommels, reflecting the social status of their owners. In the hands of a skilled swordsman, a broadsword was both a weapon and a masterpiece of medieval engineering. Today, broadswords are treasures of historical collections, admired for their craftsmanship and the stories they carry. Each piece serves as a window into the past, offering insights into the culture, warfare, and artistry of medieval Europe. Whether displayed in museums or private collections, these swords continue to captivate enthusiasts and historians alike. #MedievalSwords #Broadswords #HistoricWeapons #MedievalHistory #KnightlyWeapons #SwordCraftsmanship #WeaponCollectors #AncientWarfare #PatternWelding #KnightlyCode #MedievalArmory #RareWeapons #BattleReady #HistoricCollections #CollectorCommunity #WeaponDesign #ChivalryAndSteel #IconicWeapons #SwordsAndStories #EuropeanHistory

Participation and creativity at its best!
This year I had the honour to work with Marie Gordon MSc on a #CreativeClimateAction project funded by Creative Ireland and Iarnrod Eireann called Tern the Tide. Working closely with BirdWatch Ireland and Irish Rail, we created a series of art workshops connecting local people with the largest conservation project of #LittleTerns in Ireland and encouraged them to take action for nature and our environment. It culminated in a final sculpture at Kilcoole train station, upcycled from old Irish rail signs. Check out this gorgeous video for more info!

African Throwing Knives: Weaponry Meets Artistry African throwing knives are a stunning fusion of function and artistry. These unique weapons, found across various regions in Africa, were ingeniously designed for both combat and ceremonial purposes. Unlike conventional knives, their diverse and intricate shapes often resemble abstract art, showcasing the cultural and creative richness of the communities that crafted them. In battle, these knives were fearsome tools, capable of striking enemies at a distance with precision. Warriors prized their aerodynamic shapes, which allowed them to be both effective and versatile in combat. Beyond warfare, many African throwing knives served symbolic roles in rituals, signifying power, status, and spiritual significance. Their dual-purpose nature underscores the deep connection between utility and culture in traditional African societies. For collectors and historians, African throwing knives are treasures that embody both history and heritage. Each piece is a testament to the skill and ingenuity of its makers, blending the practical with the ceremonial. Whether you’re drawn to their distinctive designs or their rich backstory, these knives remain a remarkable chapter in the history of weaponry and cultural expression. #AfricanThrowingKnives #WeaponArtistry #HistoricWeapons #CulturalHeritage #AfricanCraftsmanship #WeaponCollectors #AncientWeapons #CeremonialKnives #TribalArt #RareWeapons #MuseumPieces #HistoryLovers #ThrowingKnives #WeaponDesign #CollectorCommunity #AfricanHistory #KnivesAndCulture #ArtAndWarfare #UniqueWeapons #HeritageCraftsmanship
