Site Visit Spotlight: Ingenious RSJ Installation! 🛠️✨ Here’s something fascinating I came across on a recent site visit—an RSJ (Rolled Steel Joist) installation done in a way I’ve never seen before. It had me thinking: How did they manage it, and more importantly, why? 🔧 The Why: Typically, RSJs are installed below timber frames, creating a visible box section in the ceiling. It’s functional, but not always the most aesthetic choice. 🔨 The How: These builders got creative! They: 1️⃣ Used acros (temporary supports) on either side of the steel. 2️⃣ Cut the joists and removed a section where the RSJ would sit. 3️⃣ Reconnected the joists with additional timber. 4️⃣ Packed the steel seat with bricks to provide support. The result? The RSJ sits flush within the ceiling, allowing plasterboards to completely conceal it, creating a seamless finish for the entire room. 🙌 It’s not just about structural integrity but also about elevating the visual appeal. We’ve been using the tick list from our previous post! -          Before building the room / cupboard. Discuss with each trade what is required to be installed for the property. -          Plan the location of each item (you can always shuffle things around before walls go up) -          Paint the plastered walls before anything is installed, then touch up after installation – painting around pipework and electrics is not easy, we find this approach creates a better finish (plus you may just save a decorator from losing their MIND!) -          Install a water friendly floor – you never know what can happen when it comes to water, even pre plumbed items can leak! Plus, we like to future proof as much as possible!
