I wish things had gone differently for me in school! 🎓 I wish I had been chosen as a class representative. 🎓 I wish I had been selected for the morning assembly's word, thought, news, or pledge. 🎓 I wish I had been trusted with the class debate competition. 🎓 I wish I had been encouraged to active participation. 🎓 I wish I had been assured that I could do well too. 🎓 I wish I had not been overshadowed by those who could speak well. 🎓 I wish I had been allowed to learn from my mistakes. 🎓 I wish I had been encouraged to pursue my interests and passions. 🎓 I wish I had been inspired to dream big and aim high. 🎓 I wish I had been taught the value of kindness, empathy, and understanding. 🎓 I wish I had been celebrated for who I am. 🎓 I wish I had been prepared not just for exams, but for life beyond school. 🏛️Do the classics have a place in modern education? I am a firm believer that they do. However not how you might think. 🏺Recent news from a great school in my hometown of London, Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre (The NCS), that they are offering classes in the classics to enhance the classroom. 🧐This is a great opportunity to see the foundations of our modern world. I would argue that on those foundations there is also far more to explore. 📚Renaissance humanism was built on classical thought and on humanism was built the Age of Enlightenment and eventually our own modernity. 🎭Engaging with thinkers, writers, arts, across the ages creates a foundation for modern learning in the Information Age. 🏆Engagement with it all is vital to see the world clearly and I know that this foundation being built by Newham will pay off massively for the students undertaking their journey into classical thought. #educationalleadership #classics #teaching
