I started my career in a small organization and it is one of the best experiences of my career. There is something about working for a small organizations in terms of exposure. I will use my experience to explain this. I was an accountant in this small organization and I was the only one in the finance department which is typical of small organizations. I did all the tasks a finance department does and I built my skills in various areas including book keeping, taxes, reporting, payroll, Accounts Receivables, Accounts payables etc. When I joined a multinational organization later on, I was hired to perform the Accounts Payable role only because the department had several other people and the operations were huge that you couldn't do everything. I know specialisation is a good thing in some careers but for accounting, having exposure to the overall accounting processes is good especially early in your career. When I became a finance manager 5 years later in another organization, overseeing the entire finance department in my area of jurisdiction, I was literally leveraging on the experience I had gained in the small organization. Dear Employee, don't despise that opportunity to work because it is a small organization. If it is in line with your career, take it and use it as a foundation for the jobs you would like to take on the future. Small organizations also give you an opportunity for you to create impact in terms of improving the way of working which is abit limited to already established large organizations. Those are my views, what are some of the advantages you experienced working with smaller organizations? Coach Samuel Ibanda. #careers #jobsearch #coachsamuelibanda
Nice. The principle is same everywhere Infact most Accountants are looking for small, medium, Enterprises to work with. There you explore more and apply your accounting, finance, auditing and tax skills. I always say that a balanced accounting careere is best.
It also improves your ability to make very crucial decisions because everyone rely on you for financial decisions. You wouldn't want to fail them. You do all the possible studies and analysis to ensure you give the most reliable advice.
The opinion is very Valid and thanks for sharing.
I absolutely agree.

The same Multinational Org, I stepped in to handle treasury though still handled AP at some point, most times the opportunities to cross to a different section only happen when someone leaves. Otherwise in a small organization or startup, you can almost be everything, sometimes even beyond finance department. You definitely learn a lot
Me I have learnt how to survive on small means from the small organisation and also managing life during hardship times
