Key word - RESPOND. So much of our lives is spent in fight/flight/freeze/appease mode. When we are in this space we react. I especially like this concept because you may not be a cause but are almost always a contributor; whether it is from your action or inaction, your over-communication or under-communication. When look at ourselves as co-creators in a cause/circumstance it also enables us to have more power in feeling as though we are able to respond vs react. 'Overcoming complexity' Some people shy away from complexity, but I've always been fascinated by it especially if it involves significant technological challenges. But I now wonder if, in the truly modern age, that we have become too blasé about overcoming complexity. We appear no longer to be impressed with these sorts of endeavours. When things go wrong, some automatically adopt a pessimistic tone and default to a view which disparages the efforts made, no matter how astonishing they are. The Apollo moon missions are testament to how significant challenges can be overcome, and how we learn from failure. John F Kennedy famously said: 'We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard'. We must expect failure, and the reason we fail is because it is hard. Imagine you are falling from space and you are travelling at the speed of sound without an aeroplane or spaceship. How would you feel just before you jumped? On the 14th October 2012 Felix Baumgartner famously jumped out of a balloon 39,969.4km above the earth. The Red Bull Stratos jump took going beyond your comfort zone to a whole new level when he became the first human to travel at Mach 1, or the speed of sound without an aircraft. We know there is no growth in comfort. Now, we don’t all need to go to the extreme levels that Felix did, but we do need to go into the uncomfortable to progress. What is something small each day that you can do to go out of your comfort zone so growth occurs?
