DOD Announces Release of 2023 Strategy for Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction SEPT. 28, 2023 Today, the Department of Defense released the unclassified version of its 2023 Strategy for Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD).  The 2023 DOD CWMD Strategy seeks to account for current and emerging WMD challenges and threats, and provide tailored methods to address them. The Department will account for WMD threats holistically to prevent, mitigate, withstand, operate through, and recover from WMD attacks in close consultation with Allies and partners. "This Strategy lays the foundation for the Department to confront the complex and demanding challenges presented by WMD," wrote Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in the Secretary's Foreword.  Documents to be forwarded to the CBRNE Industry Group membership. #WMD #CWMD #CBRNE

The 2023 #DOD #CWMD #Strategy is a must read for any professionals in the #CBRN or #CBRNE field. #STRATEGIC APPROACH Six Ways that seek to #deter potential adversaries and increase the #resilience of the U.S. #Joint Force and the forces of our #Allies and #partners: 1. Provide credible options to deter WMD use and assure Allies and partners; 2. Build a Joint Force that can campaign, #fight, and #win in a CBRN environment; 3. Enable Allies and partners to counter WMD proliferation and use; 4. Degrade actor capability to develop, acquire, or use WMD; 5. Take action, as part of #wholeofgovernment efforts, to prevent proliferation and respond to use of WMD; and 6. Pursue advanced research and development efforts to counter future chemical and biological threats. Five Foundational Means that underpin and support all six of the above Ways: 1. Intelligence and Information; 2. Engaged Leaders Prior to Crisis and Conflict; 3. Human Capital Investment; 4. Investment in #Research and #Development; and 5. An Adaptive and Responsive #Acquisition System Great work to everyone who provided input.

Timely developments with elections taking place in the United States this year, and Canada in 2025. But more specifically the influence of AI on public discourse at-large. As much as I would love to be on the band wagon with the many people that believe “AI is just not there yet”… spotting an AI generated image, caption, or even speech is very challenging! Speechify as an example has numerous convincing voices to read through documents. Research and technologies in AI or manipulated data spotting are critical in maintaining value and trust in online news. Shameless plug to shout the reminder to gain infromation from multiple sources in corroborating and APPROXIMATION of real events.

War is a sad reality. In a recent blogpost we explored the role of Zero Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) in modern warfare. This technology is particularly useful for psychological operations and SIGINT (Signals Intelligence). The "importance of interconnection" yes, essential! Well coordinated social (education, healthcare, etc.), economic (jobs, shops, etc.), political (administration, law, justice, etc.), and environmental (architecture, civil works, ecology, etc.)[SEPE] sectors of society is vital to a Place's ability to provide a high quality of life for its community. Understanding the overlaps, seams, and gaps of thier interconnectivity would benefit from an intentional network coordinator.

My advice to young professionals who work in defense (or aspire to) is to learn about DVIDS! DVIDS has a ton of free to downlaod, public domain defense media including picture and videos. It's much better than using AI-generated imagery and it can also be a good way to research defense using open-source.

CEOs (senior managemanet) need to consider providing the solutions that meet this multi layers approach. So, proactive course of action can be offered and risks can be reduced to the minimum.
