Earlier this summer, we released the first brief from their Housing and Climate Equity series. It took a deep dive into federally funded programs from the IRA and IIJA that directly benefit EJ communities and low-income tenants. In this second brief, Just Solutions and Ground Works Consulting embarked on a landscape scan and needs assessment by interviewing thirteen EJ leaders, including three from grasstops organizations and ten from grassroots advocacy and coalition organizations. This brief takes a bottom-up approach to assess the innovative practices at the intersection of climate and housing justice emerging from EJ organizations and the needs on the ground to amplify this crucial work. The frequency of extremely hot days (above 94°F) is increasing in Florida. On average, the state is projected to experience about 57 to 93 extremely hot days per year by 2050. This trend has already led to an 88% increase in heat-related mortality in the state. Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC)'s initiative, From the Roots: A Climate Justice Campaign, is paving the way for pro-climate consciousness, capacity, and connection in Floridian communities. By broadening their efforts to expand climate programming and collaborating directly with impacted community members, FLIC is leading the charge in developing emergency heat impact plans and providing mini grants to grassroots partners. This model of community engagement sets a powerful example for responding to climate crises statewide. #ClimateJustice #CommunityEngagement Read more below! https://lnkd.in/gwzW36iB
