How to Set Up Your Domain for your Shopify Store Setting up your domain on Shopify involves connecting a domain you own or purchasing a new domain through Shopify. Here’s how to do it: 1. Choose Your Domain Option Use an Existing Domain: Connect a domain you already own. Buy a New Domain: Purchase a new domain through Shopify. 2. Access Domain Settings Log in to your Shopify admin panel. Go to Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar. Click on Domains. 3. Connecting an Existing Domain Click on "Connect existing domain". Enter your domain name and click Next. Shopify will provide DNS settings that you need to configure with your domain registrar: A Record: Point to Shopify’s IP address. CNAME Record: Point to shops.myshopify.com for subdomains. Update DNS Settings: Log in to your domain registrar’s account and update the DNS settings with the provided values. Verify Connection: Once DNS settings are updated, go back to Shopify and click Verify connection. It may take up to 48 hours for DNS changes to propagate. 4. Purchasing a Domain Through Shopify Click on "Buy new domain". Enter the domain name you want to purchase. Select the domain and follow the prompts to purchase it. The domain will be automatically set up and connected to your Shopify store. 5. Setting Your Primary Domain Once your domain is connected, you can set it as the primary domain. In the Domains section, find your connected domain. Click Set as primary next to the domain you want as your main address. Shopify allows you to manage redirection from your .myshopify.com domain to your custom domain, ensuring all traffic is directed correctly. 6. SSL Certificate Shopify automatically provides an SSL certificate for your domain, ensuring secure browsing for your customers. 7. Testing and Troubleshooting Test Your Domain: Once connected, visit your domain in a web browser to ensure it’s correctly pointing to your Shopify store. Troubleshooting: If there are issues, double-check the DNS settings and contact your domain registrar for assistance. By following these steps, you can seamlessly integrate your domain with your Shopify store, enhancing your brand's professionalism and trustworthiness.

Why do I do this? Why bother taking the time to alert a brand about a content problem -- especially when that brand just laid off its best content designers? (Hi, Shopify.) Because I care about users and the quality of written content. Because sloppy copy is part of a brand's voice, which ought to build trust, not make the brand look like it couldn't possibly care less -- even if that's the reality. I still care, even if the brand doesn't. I do this because it matters to users, of which I am one. Bad user experiences are what drove me to work in UX in the first place. I don't care about "user delight." I came here to fix the litany of pain point and problems that are easily solved and need attention now. Refine what you already have. Fix style issues. Figure out what's interfering with your brand messaging and voice and make it better. Optimize your content. Don't "pptimize" anything. Content design should be iterative first and additive second. More stuff doesn't fix existing problems. Keep that in mind when you're considering a full site redesign.
Is there anyone left at Shopify who can fix this embarrassing typo? It's on the #shopifydropshipping 101 page. (https://lnkd.in/gf5pzJui) I have a client who needs to make some very simple changes to her Shopify website and can't figure out how to do it. I found this while looking for help. There's also an extra space that should be removed, two bullets above, between "ecommerce" and "brand." If anyone cares. (Other than me.)

Shopify makes great out of the box tools. But You probably won't use Shopify email forever. You probably won't use Shopify subscriptions forever. You probably won't use a Shopify site template forever. So how do you know when it's time to change to something else? Consider your needs first and foremost. But also consider the rate of growth. You aren't pressure testing these systems. You are choosing the path of least resistance to your goals. If you wait too long, you are just going to make life more difficult. While this subscription product Shopify is releasing is cool. You are probably going to want to stick with Skio or Loop Subscriptions when it comes to businesses that are moving. Shopify has always been about great starting tools, but don't forget - that's what most of those baked in tools are going to be. A starting position. Service your needs first and foremost.
