Zebras are African equines with distinctive black-and-white striped coats. There are three living species: Grévy's zebra the plains zebra and the mountain zebra Zebras share the genus Equus with horses and asses, the three groups being the only living members of the family Equidae. Zebra stripes come in different patterns, unique to each individual. Several theories have been proposed for the function of these stripes, with most evidence supporting them as a deterrent for biting flies. For information about wildlife, culture. #WorldWildlifeDay We’re all in this together! Our two The National Lottery Heritage Fund projects (#MartensontheMove and @Natur am Byth Barbastelle Project) and our two #CitizenScience surveys (@IrishStoatSurvey and @PolecatSurvey) are all working with communities to improve outcomes for wildlife and people. Whether engaging and informing through social media platforms and websites; using trail cameras to capture evidence of stoats, pine martens and polecats; or acoustic detectors to identify bat species and thermal imagers to detect the presence of pine martens in den boxes without causing disturbance… all the projects are helped hugely by digital innovation. Good news for wildlife! Check out the article below that features an excellent piece on ocelot recovery🐆 featuring the great Sharon Wilcox 🤠
Wildlife Conservationist | Cultural Geographer | Conservation Social Scientist | Wild Cat Specialist | Explorer's Club Fellow
“When people are made aware of the cats, they’re enthusiastic about their presence,” Wilcox says. “We owe them this fair fight for survival.” I am so honored to have been interviewed for this excellent piece on ocelot recovery in National Geographic alongside a terrific cast of characters fighting for these cats’ survival in South Texas. As a professional geographer, having our work featured in National Geographic is a particularly sweet moment. Nat Geo had such an impact on my own worldviews and interests as a child— I never dreamed I would have the opportunity to play a part in one of these stories. Now back to the fight to save a spot for the ocelots. 🐆
Ocelots once roamed the U.S. Can we bring them back?

Step into nature's grand theatre at Epacha Private Game Reserve, where you can encounter fascinating wildlife like Oryx, Springbok and Ostriches. Here are some cool facts about these three animals: 1) Oryx, also known as the gemsbok, can conserve water, allowing them to thrive where few other creatures can. Their adaptation to the desert is nothing short of astounding 🏜 2) The name "springbok" has its origins in Afrikaans. The term "springbok" is a combination of two words: "spring," meaning jump, and "bok," referring to an antelope or deer-like mammal. Therefore, "springbok" can be translated to mean "jumping antelope" or "pronking antelope." 🦌 3) Male ostriches take on the responsibility of nest protection and the incubation of the eggs. The males usually take the night shift because of their dark feathers, as they blend in better at night!
