Imagine that you walked into a residential or a public building, and almost immediately, you begin to feel some form of discomfort, dizziness and restlessness. On looking around, you notice that the building does not have sufficient openings to allow for proper lighting and effective ventilation, hence the reason for your feeling of discomfort. Such a building is NOT a sustainable building. What then is a sustainable building? Or rather, when is a building said to be sustainable? A sustainable building or a green building is one that is properly designed using sustainable design methods, constructed using sustainable materials, and operated using sustainable strategies, such that the building has little or no negative effect on both its inhabitants, and its immediate environment. That is to say that such a building will enhance the comfort and wellbeing of its inhabitants whilst reducing its environment impact such as air and noise pollution, as well as its energy consumption rate. In subsequent posts, I will be sharing key features of sustainable buildings and how these features can be incorporated in new and existing buildings to enhance healthy living. #Sustainability #sustainablebuilding #SustainableDesign #sustainablearchitecture #GreenBuilding

🌿 I recently completed a course on Sustainable Design for Houses and it was truly fascinating!🌿 In this course I learned about various aspects of sustainable design and how even small changes can significantly improve our quality of living and the environment. Sustainable houses are not just about energy efficiency, but also about creating spaces that are healthier and more enjoyable to live in. Here are a few iconic projects in Australia that have incorporated sustainable design: 1. The Sustainable House, Melbourne: Known for its use of recycled materials and solar power. 2. The Greenhouse by Joost, Sydney: A zero-waste home with a rooftop garden and composting systems. 3. The 10 Star Home, Victoria: This home achieves a 10-star energy rating through passive design, insulation, and solar energy. These projects showcase how innovative design can lead to sustainable living. Let's continue to embrace and promote sustainable practices in our homes! 🌏💚 #SustainableDesign #GreenHomes #EcoFriendlyLiving #Sustainability #Australia
