MY GOODBYE MESSAGE I hope you did not think that I am leaving this space? Nah, not anytime soon.😅 This was my goodbye and appreciation message to my customers, as a Measured Cereal Business Owner, when I was leaving. Yes. I did a number of legit businesses in school as a student, to get the manneyyy. You see, even before I started branding myself as a virtual assistant and diving hard into the virtual space, I have always been that girl that dives hard in, carefully too, whenever I am determined to achieve something. For this business and for this recognition of merit, as the entrepreneur of my class. I surrounded myself with people that were willing to help me and push me when the going got tough; reason why Intentional Networking both in personal and business life is a must. I wore many hats - a business partner, a sales girl, a dispatch deliverer, a content writer and video creator, a strategist, a business coach for my fellow students, since I started the business first, a supplier, name it. I became a nocturnal being on some days. My name changed from CLAIRE to NWAANYI CEREAL, my steeze dropped on so many days in the face of my business. I had to do all of these, as long as it helps me grow the business right and you bet that it paid off! Now as an entry-level virtual assistant in her becoming process and also a learner on my job, I do a lot of things and a lot of learning just to get my tasks done and give my bosses relief and I am grateful to have bosses that are totally willing to hold my hands and help me get a hang of things. 🤨 'What is the point of having an Employer Brand Video? Why should I spend money on it?' 🎥 Well, there are a number of reasons and we could write an essay on it, but we tell people these three main points: -Recruitment: Senior Executives can write all day about how great their company is, but hearing from a range of your team is a far more compelling pull for prospective recruits. -New Business: If a prospective client is looking at companies to spend their money with, seeing a great culture and hearing directly from those who will be handling their project can be the difference. -Reach: video is the most shareable form of content out there, so if you want to put your company in front of more faces, it is the most effective medium to do so. What's also useful is that you can re-purpose your video for social content, creating snippets yourself, maximising its investment and usage. This photo from 2017 is one of my proudest moments / days. My employer back at that time, Booking.com , organised an internal TEDx kind of event, called B.Storytellers, and I was one of 12 (or less?) selected speakers at the event. It was epic! After a careful selection procedure where we needed to pitch our topics in a video format, we got 1-2 day long training by professional public speaking coaches. On the day itself we had a dry-run and then Pakhuis de Zwijger stage in front of our colleagues was ours. I felt like a real public speaker! My talk (less than 10min were allowed, I think) consisted of three slides, each slide has one big photo on it. The rest was me talking. About what? About an internal side project #WhatsYourJourney I was running in the company, focusing on how one can build a career and professional development not by becoming a manager, but by finding the right position in the company. In this project, every week we published an interview with a colleague who has done that. Through interviews people could see the company diversity and get inspired to find their right place, without needing to leave Booking. I talked about how I got the idea. How I got it up and running, pitching it to the right people and then recruiting my helpers. And how you can be good in your job without ever wanting to become a a manger. I think I’ve finally found the balance I’ve been searching for, A little a while ago you may remember that I decided to switch up my posting schedule. After finding posting 5 times a week was zapping my creativity, (and enthusiasm) I cut things back to 2 posts a week, But kept on engaging and commenting more frequently. And now I feel excited to post, Rather than frantically searching for inspiration. In fact, I now almost have too many ideas 🤦 Another little win I celebrated in June came from attending Multimodal. With the majority of my work being office based, Attending this trade show pushed me out of my comfort zone. However, I found it really beneficial to speak with industry professionals. And came away with a lot of new ideas on how to promote my accounts. It also helped me to connect the work I do for my clients, To the new business enquiries and sales they received at the show. Overall, June brought me lots of opportunities for growth, And I feel that I've taken advantage of these opportunities as much as possible. Back from Europe and into my second week at my office. I've been away for a long time, and I'm now getting back into things. I had neatly worked out what I do when while being away, but threw that overboard in about week 1.5. There were so many other things to do, so I only wrote a handful of messages to clients and for the rest greatly enjoyed being offline (a 5-star experience, highly recommended). If you didn’t see me on LinkedIn last month, it’s because I wasn't around. And yes, I acknowledge that your purpose here isn’t solely to follow me and my wisdom. 😂 I also realised that I forgot that I have humour in all my attempts to be professional and add value. Note to self: be more fun and self in postings. I’ll try and we see how that goes. Apart from travelling, having a blast with my family and friends, and rediscovering that I can be entertaining, I needed time and distance to review strategies, deduct some learnings on what works well and where I put the cart in front of the horse or did not help myself, despite knowing better or having helpful people telling me. Well, it all happens. And now the cool thing is that I have fresh eyes and am exploring a new partnership, a new program and I’m reconnecting with clients from last year. Don’t go to events for great content. If you want great content sit on YouTube or enroll in courses that cover exactly the thing you need to upskill in. Go to events to meet people and network. The people who get the dream role don’t live in a cave delivering great work. You need to go outside and meet people. Vervaunt have curated great content and speakers, don’t get me wrong, hearing from people doing what you do in person is super valuable. It’s relatable. Use the opportunity to speak to them afterwards and start a relationship. That’s where the magic of in person events happens. See you tomorrow at Pulse. PS.
