The need for proper design of process safety instrumented systems has become more accepted over the past 10 to 15 years and holding TUV accredited qualifications such as a Functional Safety Professional is relatively commonplace. Whereas the awareness around process safety has followed a steep curve in terms of demonstrable competence, the same cannot be said for the machinery safety sector where complacency is still prevalent. With the many hazardous machines in service this represents a significant risk to both individuals and those responsible for managing the risk. Responding to client needs we are pleased to announce that we now have personnel qualified to the standard of “Certified Machinery Safety Expert” accredited by TUV Nord. Inspec have been delivering designs against the machinery directive and other relevant legislation for many years but recognised the need to gain this expert qualification as a demonstration of our commitment to skills development and give reassurance of our competency in this field. The CMSE qualification sits alongside our other core competencies in Safety and accreditations as TUV engineers and professionals allowing us to offer safety compliant solutions across many industries and projects. Few of us can get excited about British and European legislation and the plethora of standards, rules, and regulations surrounding Machinery safety. Until something goes wrong. 🌍 Did you know that VCA certification extends beyond its original Dutch borders? It's recognized as a benchmark for safety excellence across many other countries in Europe. ▪️ Belgium and the Netherlands use the same system. VCA certificates are equivalent in both countries. ▪️ France uses the Manuel d’Amélioration Sécurité Santé Environnement des Entreprises (MASE). The Netherlands accepts MASE for all VCA certification levels. However, France only accepts the VCA Petrochemicals certification level. ▪️ Germany uses the Sicherheits Certifikat Contraktoren (SCC). While slightly different from the Dutch VCA, certificates are accepted on both sides. ▪️ Austria also utilizes the Sicherheits Certifikat Contraktoren (SCC), with certificates being accepted on both sides. ▪️ Denmark and Sweden accept VCA certificates on certain construction sites as a substitute for the #CSCScard safe pass. Current is the flow of electric charge and is measured in amperes (A). 4. Resistance is a measure of the opposition to the flow of steady electrical current and is measured in ohms (Ω). 5. Components connected in series are connected along a single path; thus, the same current flows through all of the components. 6. In a parallel circuit, the electrical current to each element in the circuit is separate. 7. Resistors are elements of electrical and electronic systems that are designed to intentionally resist the flow of electrical current through the system at a known measurement. 8. Capacitors or condensers are passive electronic components consisting of a pair of conductors separated by dielectric insulators, creating an electrical field that stores energy and produces a mechanical force between the conductors. 9. Inductors are passive electrical components that can store energy in a magnetic field created by the electric current passing through it. 10. The most common shock-related, nonfatal injury from electricity is burns. 11. Arc blasts occur when powerful, high-amperage currents arc through the air. 12.
