My key takeaways from #GoogleCloudNext in London 🇬🇧 1. The #GenAI hype is real Everyone is looking at GenAI and how they can leverage it in their organization. However I get the sense that many organizations are trying to run before they can walk. The potential value derived from GenAI is directly related to the quality, quantity and differentiation of input data you have. Now is the time to invest in better data, robust data infrastructure and a deeper understanding of what that data says about your business and customers. 2. The trend is towards #multicloud Especially when it comes to larger Enterprises, it's no longer just about moving to the cloud. It's about leveraging the best cloud technologies across the three hyperscalers as well as mitigating risk by diversifying where workloads run and data is stored. I see leveraging #opensource technologies as a great way to ensure you remain agile in this area. 3. Companies are looking to unify operational and analytical systems and data Companies have been using operational data for analytics for some time now. But increasingly, they also want to use analytical data and insights inside their products. This increases the need for robust data pipelines to move data between operational and analytical systems (for example, in and out of #BigQuery). But it also increases interest in technologies that can serve both use cases, such as #Kafka (especially with the recent announcement of #TieredStorage), #Flink or #ClickHouse. Why Bringing Some Apps Back Makes Sense for Us? Wanted to share a bit about why we at Metify.io are pulling some of our apps back from the cloud and into our own data centers. It's not a step back; it's about what's smart for us financially and operationally right now. The truth is, not all our cloud moves panned out like we hoped. Some of that's on us – we lifted and shifted without tweaking things to really fit the cloud mold. And when we looked at the numbers, especially with how tech gear prices have dropped, it just made sense to bring certain things back in-house. This isn't us knocking the cloud. It's about being smart with our resources. For the stuff that's just sitting there storing data or running the same tasks day in and day out, having it on our own gear can save us a lot. Even with the extra work it takes to manage things ourselves, the savings are too good to pass up. But hey, this doesn't mean we're done with the cloud. It's still the go-to for anything that needs heavy lifting like AI or big data analytics. We're just getting better at picking where to run our stuff based on what makes the most sense for us.
