It is a good gesture to give #Hongbao or #angbao during the Chinese New Year #CNY. But long queue over the bank counter for new notes or even giving the paper #redpack isn't that environmental friendly. Shall we learn from the #China #techcompanies to promote the #electronicpayments services? For example, giving Angbao via WeChat, or even a Government payment system which could integrate the government issued benefits such as CDC vouchers?
Go green this Lunar New Year! 🧧♻️ As you are preparing for your ang pows, why not try giving “Fit-for-Gifting” notes. Fit notes are used currency notes that are generally clean and suitable for recirculation, including for festive gifting. Going the extra-mile? You can also use e-ang pows instead of the physical red packets. Give it a try – contribute to our greener future by choosing these eco-friendlier options while preserving our traditions. 🍊🍊 Happy Lunar New Year in advance! Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS)

Skip the red packets and go with mobile payments for Lunar New Year, suggests Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore. Wong says the public could consider digital red packets as tokens of good wishes, and settle for used notes instead of new notes for physical red packets. “Give it a try – contribute to our greener future by choosing these eco-friendlier options while preserving our traditions.” How can you preserve traditions in a more sustainable manner? Delighted that DPM has taken the lead in calling for a ‘green’ Lunar New Year. Using e-ang pows is a great suggestion. I don’t want to single out any particular companies. But many of them with sustainability self-claims in their sustainability reports are still freely distributing physical ang pow envelopes with their branding. Not even bothering to use certified sustainable paper. It’s not consistent with their sustainability claims. Can you such companies stop this practice? What do you think? #greenCNY #sustainability

Happy Lunar New Year! 🎉🧧🐲 This year marks the beginning of the Year of the Dragon. Lunar New Year is predominantly celebrated by East Asian communities, including Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and others. It's a time to reflect on the past year, show gratitude, and set positive intentions for the year ahead. During the Lunar New Year, families come together for a festive reunion dinner, symbolizing unity and prosperity. Elders give red envelopes containing money to younger family members as a gesture of good luck and prosperity. Dragon and Lion Dances, believed to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits, are common during Lunar New Year celebrations. Special dishes are prepared, each with a symbolic meaning. For example, dumplings represent wealth, and fish symbolize abundance. Here's a fun twist. During the Lunar New Year, it's believed that cleaning the house might sweep away good luck. So, take a break from your usual cleaning routine and embrace a little mess as a symbol of good fortune. Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous Lunar New Year! 🙏🏼🎊

🐉 The year of the Wood Dragon 🐉 The date of the Chinese New Year is determined by the lunar calendar. It falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice on December 21. Each year the lunar new year, as celebrated by many East Asian countries including China, Bhutan, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam, falls on a different date than on the Gregorian calendar. The dates usually range sometime between January 21 and February 20. This year the lunar new year falls on 10th February 2024. According to Chinese horoscopes, the Dragon represents authority, prosperity and good fortune. So when combined with the nourishing Wood Element, it will bring evolution, improvement and abundance. 2024 is the perfect time for rejuvenated beginnings, and setting the foundation for long-term success. Everyone at CICM wishes you the very best for the new lunar year ahead.
