Hey there, edtech world! 👋 Let's talk about the bumps we face as startup founders trying to shake up education. Ever feel like you're on a wild ride? Here's what's keeping us edtech creators tossing and turning: 1. Making learning fun: How do we get kids as excited about math as they are about video games? It's tough! 2. Getting schools on board: Sometimes it feels like we're trying to convince a cat to take a bath. Not easy! 3. Money worries: One day we're celebrating a big win, the next we're counting pennies. It's a rollercoaster! 4. Growing pains: We want to help more students, but we don't want to lose that personal touch. It's tricky! 5. Showing we make a difference: We know we're helping, but how do we prove it? It's like trying to measure happiness! Fellow edtech dreamers, what's your biggest struggle? Let's chat and help each other out. We're all in this together! 🤝💡 #EdtechLife #StartupStruggles #LearningRevolution

Homeschooling is booming for a variety of reasons, but chief among them are dissatisfaction with public schools that spiked during the Covid-19 pandemic and $5 billion a year (and growing) of state stipends for families opting for public school alternatives. Those can include traditional private schools, online classes, homeschooling and microschools—networks of in-person learning “pods” with one teacher and a dozen to two dozen kids, often using online courses. It all adds up to a growing parent-driven market for the edtech industry, says Michael Moe, founder and CEO of GSV Ventures, which backs educational startups. “Personally, I think the most exciting opportunity is in microschools, but homeschool, charter schools, low-cost private schools and virtual charter schools are all positioned well for this coming boom,” he says.

Tech founders and talents use my strategies to stay profitable | Global Speaker & Award Winner (GITEX, Dubai ‘23 | UNIDO ITPO (WEIF), Bahrain ‘24)
I agree to some extent. But in my opinion, I think we should replace “Mentorship” with current industry insights, proven playbooks, and implementation guidelines for each team (in the form of video content, SaaS product, or PDF).

If I start any startup support program, I’ll give cash instead of mentorship and let the team do their stuff and send in updates There’s too much mentorship and too little funding and many programs aren’t useful for the teams they’re set up to support I believe the funds used to pay for mentoring and other programming should instead go directly to the projects we’re aiming to support, not to operational overhead

Most VCs would avoid posting on this, but because Uchi Nick Uchibeke is my guy, I will share some facts without any conjectures. - YES! Mentorship can be fake, misleading or too much. I have too much cash, said no one ever. - Humans have always preferred cash over mentorship. The parable of the prodigal son exists for a reason. - VC funding became structured during post-World War II era, when investors began to recognize the potential of funding high-risk, high-reward projects. If it is not high-risk, high-reward, its not really VC ready. - YC, a popular (putting it mildly) VC model gives more mentorship and community than cash. - - We know how much of venture funding $$ is out there, we don't know how much of mentorship is. - Mentorship programs exist because these startups and teams are not getting the cash from the sources that are available - the gamble is that the mentorship will help them get closer to the funding. Disclosure: I give both cash and mentorship. It should go hand in hand. 2 years ago, I stopped mentoring founders I won't give cash to. Except they literally beg for it so both parties can value the time put in.
