Short-term rentals can be great options for booking a weekend getaway with friends and family, but it's important to exercise caution since the regulatory and enforcement tools designed to promote safety are currently mostly absent from the short-term rental landscape. For instance, the Hotel and Motel Fire Safety Act, which was implemented to promote fire and life safety in hotels and motels, does not apply to short-term rental properties, despite their increased similarities.
