"It's always one line of code, but it's never one person".....Scott Hanselman. Beautifully said in regards to the global systems outage caused by #crowdstrike updates. Many questions arise: How was this not identified in internal testing and code reviews? Why is the release process structured this way and not staggered? Software and system development is a team effort, and issues of this scale happen when processes fail or missing. https://lnkd.in/efGfuhT2

What is the first thing came to your mind when you hear “Taking over a 15+ years old legacy code”? I would use your answers in a presentation.

The term "resilient wildcard" generally refers to a component or factor in a system, plan, or strategy that is both adaptable and unpredictable. In a software engineering context, a "resilient wildcard" could refer to a component of a system or a strategy that is both robust (able to handle unexpected errors or disruptions) and flexible or unpredictable in how it responds to challenges.

If your github actions workflows starts failing, maybe you were hit by the recent actions/upload-action@4.4.0 breaking change of excluding hidden files from upload, even if they are explicitly specified in path argument. Software Engineer with experience in MLOps / AI and Full-Stack Web Development using Python and JavaScript
Arjan Codes published this video reflecting on all this CrowdStrike incident thing, and I felt I needed to share it. He is truly stating a very important problem for the future of our industry: the quality of our software development going forward needs to be better than ever. Development is slowly becoming a less-human process everytime, and while I don't think it will become completely AI-driven, it will have a percentage of involvement, and there will also be more and more software around us, and potentially more dangerous in the future. So, what's the problem ? Our industry needs to understand the value behind quality processes like code standards and best practices, linters, type checkers, unit testing, secure git processes using pre-commit, pre-push, protected branches, strong CI/CD pipelines, human code-reviews, etc. https://lnkd.in/dWKyXkSS
