Today, on International Women's Day, we celebrate remarkable women who are shattering glass ceilings and revolutionizing industries. One such woman is Reshma Saujani, the founder and CEO of Girls Who Code. Reshma, a former attorney and investment banker, saw a critical gap in the tech industry: a lack of women pursuing careers in coding. Determined to bridge this gap, she founded Girls Who Code in 2012. This non-profit organization empowers young girls (ages 7-17) to explore computer science through immersive coding programs, clubs, and resources. The impact? Girls Who Code has impacted over 500,000 girls in the US alone, changing the landscape of the tech workforce. Reshma's tireless efforts and unwavering belief in young women have inspired a generation to embrace technology and pursue careers in coding. Reshma's story is a powerful reminder that women can be agents of change. She identified a problem, took action, and revolutionized the way young girls approach technology. Junior Frontend Developer | React | Javascript | CSS/SCSS | HTML | APIs | Responsive Web Development
As I reflect on my journey into the world of software development, I can't help but feel immense gratitude for the incredible community I've found through Women Who Code. 💻✨ For the past year, I've had the privilege of volunteering with Women Who Code, hosting monthly study groups covering a range of topics in web development such as React, complex Javascript topics, and algorithms. These study groups aren't just about learning new skills; they're about fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for women breaking into the tech field. Being part of this community has been transformative for me. Not only have I had the opportunity to share my knowledge and support others on their learning journeys, but I've also been continuously inspired by the passion and determination of the women I've met along the way. Attending meetups and events organized by Women Who Code has provided me with invaluable networking opportunities, mentorship, and friendships that have aided my growth in software development. Whether it's collaborating sharing resources, or simply encouraging one another, the sense of camaraderie within this community is truly unparalleled. 🌐❤️ Through Women Who Code, I've not only honed my technical skills but also developed the confidence and resilience needed to navigate the challenges of the tech industry. I've learned that success isn't just about individual achievements; it's about lifting each other up and creating space for all voices to be heard. As I continue on my journey, I'm excited to pay it forward and empower more women to pursue their dreams in tech. To all the amazing women out there breaking barriers and defying stereotypes, remember that you are not alone, and your voice matters. Together, we can build a more inclusive and innovative future for tech. Let's keep coding, collaborating, and inspiring one another! 🌟💬 Attend one of our Meetups! We host various types of meetups including, but not limited to: study groups, lunch meetups, coffee chats, networking, and more! https://lnkd.in/eUweQtsX #WomenWhoCode #TechCommunity #SoftwareDevelopment #WomenInTech #CodingJourney

Championing Women in Code: A Celebration of Anita Borg's Legacy More than just lines of code, Anita's journey began with a self-taught passion for coding. Despite a decorated career in the field of computer science, her passion found a haven in bridging the gender gap between women and technology. Her milestones include establishing the first email network for women in coding, and an annual celebration of women, inspired by Grace Hopper. These platforms empowered countless women, launching them into fulfilling careers in the tech world. Building a lasting legacy, Anita Borg founded the Institute for Women and Technology, now the Anita Borg Institute. This organization continues to nurture the next generation of women in tech, ensuring their voices are heard and their ambitions realized. Anita Borg's story is not just about technical prowess; it's about creating a world where women are empowered to shape the future of technology. By championing collaboration, mentorship, and visibility, she has left an indelible mark on the landscape of computing. #AnitaBorg #WomenInTech #GraceHopperCelebration #ABInstitute #TechForGood

Day 8, 9 and 10 - #codechallenge by Women Who Code Embarking on a career change or pursuing studies while managing a job can be quite challenging. Sometimes, it might even feel like you're not making progress and that everything is taking too long. Here's a reminder to myself, and perhaps to others in the same boat: contributing even 1% now towards my studies is better than 0%. Whether it's just one page read or a single line of code written today, it all adds up in the long run. Stay strong and keep going! Every small effort counts. #CareerChange #StayMotivated #learningjourney #codingcommunity #wwcode #workinprogress

There's a DEI Crisis in STEM. As a consultant who works primarily with tech clients, I’m deeply invested in the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Recently, the closures of key organizations like Girls in Tech, Women Who Code, and Code Nation have highlighted a silent crisis that we cannot ignore. These organizations were vital in providing support, mentorship, and resources to women and minorities in STEM. Their absence leaves a void that underscores the persistent challenges we face in achieving true diversity and inclusion. In my latest article, I delve into: • The systemic issues contributing to the shutdowns • The cultural and financial barriers women in STEM encounter • The broader implications of a lack of diversity in our industry I also discuss actionable steps we can take to support existing DEI initiatives and create a more inclusive environment. It’s time for us to take a stand and ensure that the tech field benefits from the diverse perspectives and talents of everyone. Let’s work together to make a difference. 🌍✨ Read the full article here: Why We Lost Girls in Tech, Women Who Code, and Code Nation: The Silent DEI Crisis in STEM #DEI #WomenInSTEM #TechDiversity #Inclusion #STEM #Innovation #DiversityMatters #WomenWhoCode #GirlsInTech #CodeNation
