We heard from professors that intro-level students struggle to read landmark Supreme Court cases, like Brown v. Board of Education. To make studying landmark cases more engaging, we created our Supreme Court Stories video series. Each original video tells the story of a classic Supreme Court case and features some of the best storytellers in the discipline, including Dr. Michelle D. Deardorff. Many of the videos are featured in Central Ideas in American Government, our best-selling webtext. You can learn more about its features and contents at soomo.co/am-gov. How do we get artificial intelligence to be reflective of all of the perspectives and differences of the human experience? At THE LIGHT HOUSE 2024, Brian AM Williams of Black Innovation Alliance and Wayne and Reed hosted a Lightning Talk to share his thoughts. "As we think about where we are today, we have biases that will change over time that our artificial intelligence tools may or may not learn unless we re-teach it. The same way we teach a child, as they turn into a teenager and then into a young adult." Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining an inspiring and engaging panel discussion on “Algorithms and Autocracies – the Role of Digital Tech in the Fight for Freedom.” Here are my key takeaways from the conversation and our work on Tech & Democracy at the Alliance of Democracies Foundation: 📢 We need to play offense, not just defense! While protecting ourselves from digital threats it is essential for liberal democracies that we also empower freedom fighters globally by equipping them with digital tools and AI training to amplify their fight against oppressive regimes. 💡 Invest in digital and media literacy for all! All democracies should introduce tailored digital literacy programs for all ages—from Kindergarten to pensioners. Government officials and parliamentarians need specialized training to make informed tech governance and regulation decisions in the future! There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to digital news & tech literacy. 🏛️ Tech companies must choose the side of freedom and democracy! Neutrality is no longer an option. Tech companies need to subscribe to responsible tech practices, be transparent, inclusive, and actively support those fighting for freedom. 🌍 Let’s maintain integrity in how we use technology! We should not (mis-)use tech like autocracies do. Though our approach may be more difficult, leveraging the creativity and freedoms of democratic societies will ultimately lead to success. A big thank you to Antje Schippmann and the Axel Springer Freedom Foundation for hosting me and my fellow panelists including Leopoldo Lopez from World Liberty Congress and all ASFF Young Leaders who participated in this thought-provoking discussion. Together, we are shaping the future of tech for freedom! #DefendDemocracy #ListenToTheDissidents #TCEI #CDS Katharina Lix Christopher Sieler Wenzel Michalski Henrik von Homeyer Juri Schnöller 🇺🇦

Helping law firms to develop emotional intelligence, adapt and create change for the benefit of people, communities and business
Dinner is soon to be served at the Law South Group Ltd conference in this beautiful venue. And what a day of superb content it's been! Adrian Tripp brought home the message about the urgency of getting started on the journey into AI land. He emphasised the importance of becoming informed, doing the ground work and starting with accessible technology. Adrian's session brought the excellent Doug Shaw's manta to mind, "be curious, make a start, keep going". That's something to live by. Jenni Tellyn & Paul Longhurst grounded us with some risks and opportunities, and some use cases - crucial intel when getting to grips with what's possible. Chris Bull chair a terrific panel discussion. One question was, "How do I avoid demo overload?". Ground work and priorities, came the answer. Stuart J T Dodds provided even more food for thought by looking at the commercials, making the case for wringing value out of AI. And I brought up the rear, offering some time to process and reflect, focusing on human skills, inclusion and psychological safety. Most importantly, I sent people out into the sunshine to walk and talk. It's such a gorgeous venue and a gorgeous day! Many thanks to Mark Day for the kind invitation to contribute, and to Natalie, Sara and Patricia for making the day with so smoothly. #humanskills #change #leadership #aiinlegal #lawtolife
