A few years ago, we introduced the #CubeHeart Award. Every two years, we select one teammate to receive this recognition based on their embodiment of all that CubeSmart stands for and believes in.
This year, we were honored to recognize Laura Galarneau, our district manager in Massachusetts for who she is both inside and outside of work.
We tried to summarize all of the reasons Laura was chosen for this award and couldn’t do her justice. Instead, we are sharing the full nomination that describes our incredible, big-hearted teammate.
***Laura's CubeHeart Nomination***
“When we think about CUBE and heart, Laura immediately comes to mind. She is an excellent leader and human being. She is inclusive, collaborative, welcoming of challenges, and consistently delivers superior results, all while being a great ambassador of our culture.
She is a tremendous representative of our culture of WOW! and genuine care. She and her teammates lead the company in sharing recognition with others through All Star nominations and usage of our Spotlight platform. She has also become a go-to leader when hCube/corporate partners need a District Manager to influence companywide initiatives. She is constantly being recognized for her tremendous partnership, positive energy, and dedication.
What truly stands out about Laura is how she lives our values both while at work and also in her personal life.:
A few years back, Laura and her wife Lindsie set out to adopt two wonderful boys. They were matched with two elementary school aged boys who needed a fresh start and happy home. After an exhaustive process, this truly was a dream come true and Laura and Lindsie quickly embraced it. Eagerly sharing holiday photos and finding out quickly how annoying kids’ homework can be. They truly had become a perfect family of four. However, less than 6 months later, Laura and Lindsie got an emergency call from the Mass Dept of Child Services. The elder brother of the two boys they were in the process of adopting was in urgent need of short-term housing due to unforeseen circumstances. Laura and Lindsie didn’t hesitate or waiver with the how quickly they said yes!
A few days went by, and Child Services called Laura and Lindsie to inform them they had found another new temporary family the eldest brother. As is usually the case with Laura there was no hesitation, only an incredulous response to the state of “You didn’t think you were getting him back, did you?” And so, in less than two years a wonderful couple became a house of four, and then became a family of five with all five lives changing forever and three fortunate boys now find themselves surrounded by the most genuine care imaginable.
Laura embodies what CubeHeart is all about and we couldn’t be happier to recognize her as this year’s award recipient.”
