Have you lost a data entity? How careless! I was working in a new environment recently and realised I couldn't find a specific data entity that I needed. I knew it existed, so where was it? I checked under Data entities in the Data management workspace, and it was still nowhere to be seen. Then I remembered a valuable function that all D365 F&O consultants and system administrators should know about: Refresh entity list. 3 different integration approaches for D365 FnO that I've been working last 3 years for D365 and more than 10 third-party EDI and financial apps. Trying to summarize the right approach to specific tasks. 1️⃣ OData: Best Fit for: Real-time data retrieval for instant lightweight data exchanges between applications. For example customer credit limit. Considerations: Optimal for scenarios where near-real-time data access is crucial. Watch out for performance bottlenecks with extensive datasets. Sometimes D365 throttled and blocked OData requests. 2️⃣ BYOD (Bring Your Own Database) Actually, D365 batch jobs unload data entities to an external DB, once we faced an issue when batch job priority had to be changed. Best Fit for: Complex queries requiring direct SQL access. Custom reporting and analytics, a big number of records like CustTrans. Considerations: Ideal for scenarios demanding customized data views. Requires diligent management for data synchronization. Also additional indexes should be designed very carefully. 3️⃣ Data Lake: Best Fit for: Advanced analytics and complex scenarios for master data and opening balances. Almost unlimited scalability. Considerations: Suited for extensive data exchange with a focus on analytics. The setup looks not so complex but management can be complex; expertise is key. Choose the strategy to match the demands of the tasks, considering factors like real-time requirements, data complexity, and scalability needs. What can you add to this? . 💡💻 #Dynamics365 #Integration #TechInsights #DataManagement #DigitalTransformation
