⭐ Meet our lead researcher (Racing for MNDi), Dr Ianthe Pitout, who has been awarded a significant grant, the “Peter Stearne Familial MND Research Grant”, to propel MND research to the next stage! 🚀 Thanks to this grant, critical investigation can continue to demonstrate the assumption of preventing neuro degeneration, and extending life. This crucial work entitled “Developing a New Drug Candidate for C9orf72 linked MND” is being undertaken at Murdoch University under the care of Dr Pitout, and is important for proving its long-term effectiveness. 🔬 Three generations of my family have been impacted by C9orf72 over nearly four decades, so I deeply understand the urgency of finding an effective treatment as soon as possible. These grants offer an opportunity to bring us closer to life-changing breakthroughs, giving hope to people living with MND and their families—and to those who are pre-symptomatic gene carriers. Every step forward brings us closer to giving them the precious gift of more time. Thank you MND Australia for offering these extremely valuable grants, which will help us supercharge the search for a cure. We can't do this alone, but together we can aim for a future free from MND, sooner! 💜 #ResearchMatters #MNDAwareness #ScienceForHope #NewHorizons #mnd #als #racingforacure #mndi #togetherwecan
Your donations towards MND research are currently supporting over 35 researchers throughout Australia to develop new treatments, understand the causes and improve MND care. Learn more about the research we fund: https://lnkd.in/dpPkBWTc

Sharing a reconciliation glimmer - this is what we need more of 🌟 I was really inspired to see Nobel Prize-winning scientist John Clauser set an example of what real reconciliation in action can look like. Clauser shared that he feels the land acknowledgements at the events he often attends are performative, and they don't do anything to stop Indigenous children from having to drink unsafe water. After winning the award, Clauser chose to do something truly impactful by donating half his prize money to a charity that partners closely with and is guided by Indigenous peoples and communities - Water First Education & Training Inc. And here’s the best part: this donation goes directly toward building capacity for First Nations to manage their own water systems, it is not an imposed solution or a short-term fix, but genuine support that respects Indigenous knowledge and autonomy. This is exactly the kind of commitment we need more of: not just words, but real, tangible action that uplifts communities on their own terms. Imagine the change we could create if more people took these kinds of steps. 👏👏 https://lnkd.in/gCdkHRWd
