We are celebrating our 1st year 🎗 Here is what I wish I knew before starting Credit: at the beginning stage, your company will not have any credit. Therefore, it can be extremely hard to move freight, unless you already have a big driver base that trusts you. In many cases, you can offer the drivers payment before the delivery, and they will still refuse to book, because of lack of trust. Niche down: choose a small niche, and start doing research. Learn the common issues that shippers face in this specific niche. Come up with solutions to those issues. Focus on these solutions, when doing cold calls or sales in general. Overhead: As you start growing, you will get many calls and emails from companies offering services (tracking services, TMS, marketing, customer leads, business optimizations, credit improvements, etc.). Most of these services will have a binding contract, meaning you will not be able to cancel these services unless the contract ends (some can last up to 3 years). Think twice, before accepting any of these services, because most of your customers can switch to a competitor in any day. This can result in a situation of low cash flow and high overhead, potentially leading to bankruptcy.

If you’re looking for loss of medical insurance as a trainee pilot, Stein pilot insurance comes as a recommended supplier by many CAE Cadets! Loss of medical insurance will protect your training investment if you were to lose your class 1 medical during training. I’d encourage all Cadets to take it out. #pilottraining

Today I can celebrate my 20th anniversary at Wolters Kluwer, Twinfield and I was put in the spotlight with a number of much appreciated gifts. Started in the picturesque Wijk bij Duurstede with about 10 colleagues and has now been part of the Wolters Kluwer family of more than 21,000 colleagues for many years. Summarizing 20 years is quite difficult, but I dare say there is never a dull moment. I have no idea anymore how many different roles I have had. Working long days and nights as a team to deliver the best for our customers. Celebrated many successes. Always trying to improve, almost never standing still. Experienced many beautiful moments, sometimes also very sad. Seeing many colleagues come (and go), beautiful relationships and friendships that have developed. Colleagues who have just left school to colleagues who are retiring. Weddings, births, watching children grow into teenagers and adults. (Now more and more via social media, which hardly existed 20 years ago 😉) Unfortunately, sometimes also very difficult moments such as funerals, saying goodbye to dear colleagues, the corona time, the war in Ukraine that our (former) colleagues have to deal with on a daily basis. Especially since we became part of Wolters Kluwer, I have daily international conversations with direct team members, colleagues within and outside our own division, customers and suppliers. Always new challenges, having interesting conversations and meeting people. I think the people and the dynamics are the main reason I still work here. And I think it's clear, I don't think you've gotten rid of me yet.

Founder & CEO, On the Avenue Marketing Experts in customer acquisition through on-brand, targeted event activations. We utilize a unique commission-based brand ambassador model that maximizes results.
OTA is proud to celebrate its 20th Anniversary. We are grateful for the clients and partners who have supported our team throughout our journey and become our lifelong friends! Here are 6 lessons I have learned from my experience running OTA for the past 20 years and that I try to live by. 1) Surround yourself with people whose company you enjoy and whom you respect and trust. Life is all about relationships and the company you keep. Be discerning. 2) Never ever procrastinate. Those who live by: “put off today what you can do tomorrow” are mistaken. Instead, zero in on the tasks at hand and complete them with a sense of urgency. Have a “don’t just talk about it” mindset. Get it done! 3) Take calculated risks. Always be on the look out for new opportunities. This may require extra thought and creativity and could lead you out of your comfort zone. But, risks can be rewarding. And if they don’t work out, but you gave it your all, you’ll have learned a lot. 4) Never give up. When a plan doesn’t unfold the way you wanted, you can cry in your soup for a few minutes, but then change your course and persevere. We all experience straight up bad days, weeks, and even years (as once told to me by my kids’ pediatrician). But remember that tomorrow is a new day that brings with it fresh possibilities. Nothing can replace a positive attitude. 5) Have fun and laugh a lot always. Life is not about finding the treasure at the rainbow’s end. It’s about enjoying the ride on the rainbow. Make sure you take the ride with those people who unconditionally love every crazy little thing about you. That journey will sustain you in the long run. 6) Help others. Show your gratitude for your own comforts by finding ways to be generous and kind to people in need. Your acts of kindness will bring you the most meaning and happiness to your life. We are excited about what’s to come for OTA in the next decades. Although the digital age is upon us, there will always be a need for live and in-person engagements to keep us connected as humans. See you On the Avenue!

As we near our 10th Anniversary celebrations at CM Advocates LLP, these are some of the most important lessons that I have come to embrace: 1. Don't try to be better; be different. In other words; always think differently; and often inverse. 2. You should be ruthless when it come to execution. Concerning this point, I wish to borrow these two quotes: (a) “Ideas are easy. Execution is everything.” – John Doerr (b) “Strategy without execution is hallucination.” – Thomas Edison 3. Always be bold and courageous. Never give room to fear or self doubt. In the words of Peter Drucker, “The best way to predict the future is to create it." 4. Resilience and agility are critical and indispensable skills or attributes in life and in business; therefore, cultivate them. By these I mean that we should always be ready to respond quickly to any disruptions or change. On this point, here is my favourite quote from the father of the rainbow nation, Nelson Mandela: "Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again." And this too: "When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this: you haven't."~ Thomas A. Edison

19 years is a long time for a small business to survive, much less thrive, especially in tech. These elements have seen me through and kept me passionate about, and relevant in, this space: 💡 Curiosity: An almost endless curiosity about business challenges & how technology might play a role in the solutions 🥨 Flexibility: More than just adapting to change, our team thrives on change and get bored when things are static 🤝 Integrity: We're not bound to external sales goals or growth targets, and our clients know we care about their success more than we care about an extra dollar 🌐 Global impact: We've touched hundreds of millions of lives with our education, financial and health solutions, leaving things better than we found them Let's see what we accomplish in this next year! #wosb #smallbiz #femaleEntrepreneur #womenintech
