One of the aims of PBS Champion software is to reduce the use of restrictive practices, through auditing their useage. However, attitudes to use of restrictive interventions are likely to have an impact on their frequency of use. How do you assess these attitudes in your organisation? One of the aims of PBS Champion software is that organisations are able to get a baseline of their use of all restrictive practices, with the aim of reducing them. A recent article collating research evidence on reducing restrictive practices highlighted that while PBS is aimed at reducing behaviours of concern, it may not be sufficient in reducing restrictive practices. This makes a lot of sense because while PBS should influence the culture of a service or organisation in terms of values, there may still be attitudes around restrictive practices that lead to their greater or lesser use. This led to us thinking about how to assess attitudes to restrictive practices, by which we mean all types of restrictions not just physical interventions. What does accessibility mean to you? ✴️ To feel included ✴️ To freely and easily use services and resources ✴️ To have equal access to support ✴️ To have a level playing field with your peers. We all have different experiences, challenges, abilities, and thoughts regarding the world of inclusion, whether at home or in the workplace. By recognising differences in what accessibility means to a diverse range of people, we can all do more to help. During “Accessibility to Me” awareness week we encourage everyone to have a voice; and share their experiences and knowledge so together we can empower individuals and improve inclusion. At Griefline, we're committed to making our free grief and loss resources accessible to everyone. That's why we've integrated the Recite Me accessibility and language toolbar on our website. This tool allows users to customise their online experience to suit their needs, whether it's changing the language, adjusting the text size, or using the screen reader feature. Check out #digitallyinclusive website👇 griefline.org.au #Accessibility #Diversity #Inclusion #AccessibilityToMe #A2M #AWorkplaceForEveryone #ReciteMe #Griefline #GriefSupport Image description: Blue background with the heading 'What does accessibility mean to me?' Why is lived experience important for the systems your NDIS business chooses? If you want to deliver truly person centred serviced, you need your business systems to be person-centred and industry led as well. The only way that a system will service your specific needs, and continue to evolve and develop in line with your evolving needs, is if their iteration process is tailored to the NDIS. If you’re using systems that are industry agnostic, especially those that relate and directly impact your clients, you risk using a product that over time will prioritise feature and product development that is completely unrelated you. The problem? You either have a system that is a band-aid solution, or you have to switch to a new system again later on. How to know if a system is industry-led and values lived experience? 1 — do they employ people with disability? 2 — do they have experience in the industry? 3 — do they understand the nuances of running a provider and the challenges you’re looking to solve? 4 — do they consult with participants and industry leaders to continue their product improvement? Finally — it all comes down to what you want. Are you looking for partners who are in your corner, and obsessed with solving your extremely specific problems, or who service everyone and anyone, meaning your priorities might just not align with their product?

Positive Behaviour Support. Strategic PBS implementation for adult supported living services, providing consultancy and high quality PBS training
Some thoughts on attitudes to restrictive practices in staff and at an organisational level and how these attitudes influence frequency of use. I'd be really interested to find out if anyone has assessed staff attitudes in their organisation and any following actions to reduce restrictive practices #pbs #pbstraining #caresoftware
