As I come up to celebrating my 3 years anniversary with Napco in just a few days from now, I reflect upon the below and how accurate it is. I remember how challenging the first few months were with almost everyone wanting to teach me how to work or provide me "mentorship" or hit me with the classic "this is how we have always done it" . It is even more challenging when - like my case - you are working with multiple countries and with colleagues that you rarely meet face to face. Looking back at it, the first year was one of steep vertical learning of all sorts (technical & behavioral), there were lots of ups and downs and in some cases workplace conflict that needed rounds and rounds of meetings and discussions. 3 years later there are still those who still believe and insist that I am still the new guy and that I need their guidance to do my job. However the challenges with how to handle that are by far less than before hoping that one day they will be gone... Getting to know a company culture and fitting in it is as important (or even more important I might say) than having the technical skills that you were hired for. And the higher up the food chain you are, the more important and more challenging it becomes.
