Exercise can improve cognition and brain health in older adults. But the effects in research studies are often small - possibly due to between-study differences in exercise parameters and individual responses. A study examined the effects of multivitamin-mineral (MVM) supplementation on cognitive function in older adults. The researchers conducted a randomized clinical trial, as well as a meta-analysis of three separate cognitive substudies within the larger trial. => In the clinic subcohort of the study, MVM supplementation was found to have a modest benefit on global cognition over a period of two years. There was a significantly more favorable change in episodic memory, but no significant impact on executive function or attention. => The meta-analysis of the three cognitive substudies showed clear evidence of MVM benefits on both global cognition and episodic memory. The effect on global cognition was equivalent to reducing cognitive aging by two years. => This research suggests that incorporating a daily MVM supplement into our routine could help prevent cognitive decline and support brain health among older adults. #JoinTheDiscussion: I’m curious to hear your thoughts! I am pleased to announce that I have completed the course titled "Identifying Early Signs of Psychosis in Adolescents and Young Adults" offered by Stanford University. This course enhanced my understanding of my role as a healthcare professional in recognizing the early indicators of psychosis. Additionally, through virtual patient experiences, I gained insight into how patients experience psychosis firsthand, including the mental processes they undergo and the impact on their lives. The course also highlighted significant barriers to early care, such as fear of diagnosis, cultural beliefs, environmental factors, and the hesitancy of medical professionals. It is crucial for physicians to recognize that psychosis symptoms occur on a spectrum, varying in severity. identifying these symptoms, is essential for early and accurate diagnosis. Research has shown that early diagnosis and intervention lead to better prognosis. Ultimately, it is imperative for healthcare professionals to provide the highest standard of care for their patients.

The power of a mother's scent Maternal body odors serve as important safety-promoting and social recognition signals, but their role in human brain maturation is largely unknown. Utilizing ecological paradigms and dual- electroencephalography recording, been examined the effects of maternal chemosignals on brain-to-brain synchrony during infant-mother and infant-stranger interactions with and without the presence of maternal body odors. Neural connectivity of right-to-right brain theta synchrony emerged across conditions, sensitizing key nodes of the infant’s social brain during its maturational period. Infant-mother interaction elicited greater brain-to-brain synchrony; however, maternal chemosignals attenuated this difference. Infants exhibited more social attention, positive arousal, and safety/approach behaviors in the maternal chemosignals condition which augmented infant-stranger neural synchrony. Human mothers use interbrain mechanisms to tune the infant’s social brain, and chemosignals may sustain the transfer of infant sociality from the mother-infant bond to life within social groups. Adolescent brains are going through a monumental transformational process, which actually accounts for more behavioral changes than any other factor. Research over the last twenty years has given us a much more sophisticated understanding of adolescent brain development. This program will be appealing to professionals interested in direct practice. Instead of offering neuroanatomical models, the content of this course will be explored as functional systems, allowing students to understand human behaviors, predispositions to trauma, and other mental and body disorders, as well as what to do about them practically. There is no prerequisite knowledge of the biological sciences. Aside from being necessary knowledge for social work practice, integrating neuroscience and social work will promote enhanced inter-professional communication, particularly with health-related professions, which can result in greater client continuity of care. Through this integration of knowledge, students are also prepared for policy work and advocacy in areas such as early intervention programs, early childhood developmental disorder screening programs, programs to prevent brain injuries, programs to prevent and treat substance abuse, and programs to engage older adults’ cognitive abilities. https://lnkd.in/emwZhNa5
